Tyias Browning on his debut

Tyias Browning hopes his assured debut in Saturday’s Merseyside Derby was enough to warrant him more opportunities.

A local lad, Browning joined Everton at the age of 10. A decade later, he’s made his first-team debut as Hibbert’s legs ran out of steam on Saturday, becoming just the second Everton player born in Liverpool to make a first team debut in a derby after Ted Taylor in 1927.

Speaking to evertontv, Browning said: “It’s taken me 10 years to get to this day. Hopefully there’ll be many more [games] to come now.

“I was pleased with myself and hopefully I did enough to get selected again.

“I just need to wait for my next opportunity now and hopefully take it when it comes.”

“When I was told I was going on, it was nerves more than anything. It was a big game to come into but I thought I did well and it was a good result for us in the end.

“Obviously he [Roberto Martinez] knew it was an important game, as do the fans. I was just pleased that he trusted me to come on and do a job.

“He told me to attack and try to score a goal, but to be aware of the counter-attack.

“Sterling is one of the quickest players I’ve played against but I thought I did okay.”
