David Moyes has stated his belief that Luis Suarez should have been given a red card for a reckless stamp on Sylvain Distin during today´s Merseyside derby.
Suarez committed two ugly looking challenges during the game – one on Sylvain Distin, and the other on Kevin Mirallas, who now has a suspected metatarsal injury.
The Everton manager believes he shouldn´t have been on the pitch at all – which would have meant he could not have been involved in the late controversy when Liverpool had a Suarez strike disallowed for offside.
“He was a very lucky man to stay on the pitch for his tackle,” Moyes said. “It´s over the top, down the back of the leg.”
Unsurprisingly, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers once again came flying to the defence of the controversial Uruguayan, declaring that a stamp on the ankle is his way of saying “hello”.
Well, not really, but still.
“I didn´t think it was a red card,” Rodgers said. “Sometimes you get that with a striker, when they are just a fraction late. They are trying to time it just as they pass it.”
