Paddy’s Preview: Everton vs Man Utd

An explosive start to the season is in store as the second biggest club in Manchester arrive on Monday night to face the Toffees.

The Red Devils will be smarting that Everton’s back-from-the-dead revival in a 4-4 draw at Old Trafford in April effectively cost Alex Ferguson Premier League honours.

Paddy Power has priced a repeat of that score line at 350/1 in their online betting for Monday night’s clash.

If you’ve spent the last few months tunnelling into London’s Olympic Village, United lost out on the title to cross-town rivals City in the most dramatic climax to a season that anyone can remember.

Welcome back, by the way.

Marouane Fellaini is struggling to be fit for the televised clash while Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines are two of 10 Everton players who were on international duty during the week so expect some frantic work on the treatment table over the weekend.

Manager David Moyes looks like he’s found out where the board have hidden the biscuit tin as Stephen Piennar is now a fully-fledged Blue after a four-year £4.5m deal removed the temporary from his contract.

Expect plenty of non Kevin Pietersen pre-match texting between the players as Phil Neville, Tim Howard and Darron Gibson are United Old-boys while Wayne Rooney switched to Old Trafford in 2004. And no, he’s still not forgiven.

Rooney will be United’s chief goal threat after netting 27 league goals last season including two hat-tricks before mid-September and is 4/1 with Paddy Power to open the scoring on Monday night and 11/10 to put the ball in the onion bag at anytime.

Everton’s record against United at home has improved in the last four seasons with United’s 1-0 win last season thanks to Javvier Hernandez’s 19-minute strike their first league triumph at Goodison Park in four seasons.

United are 10/11 to win at Goodison with a draw 5/2 and Everton to win at home 3/1.

Other selected bets include;

Jelavic First Goal: 15/2
Naismith First Goal: 10/1
Fellaini First Goal: 14/1
Pienaar First Goal: 16/1
Gibson First Goal: 20/1
