Man Utd Res. 2-0 Everton Res.

A goal in each half saw off a spirited Everton performance at Moss Lane home of Altrincham FC.

Alan Stubbs sent a decent line up with Ross Barkley, Magaye Gueye and new signing James McFadden who was trying to step up his fitness.

The home side wasted no time by getting on the score sheet as early as the 6th minute when a run by Jesse Lingard teased the Everton defence without a challenge who then found his team mate William Keane to blast a shot high into the roof of the net leaving Hahnemann in the Everton goal without a prayer.

Manchester United seemed to be in control and were playing the more creative football with Pogba, goalscorer Keane and Lingard standing out for them.

Everton created very little but a chance did fall to Barkley only for his headed effort to go over the bar.

Everton settled well and were playing some decent football as they threatened hoping to seal an equaliser. The hosts looked the more dangerous of the two sides but Everton’s defence stood their ground and Hahnemann being the busier of the 2 keepers.

Adam Forshaw aimed for goal from distance only for Amos the United keeper to be untroubled then just before the half time whistle, Barkley got into the area to find Argentinian striker Stracqualursi who should have done better only to miss a chance to score

Both sides made a change at the break and an interesting change for Everton was that of academy graduate Chris Long who has been scoring for fun as of late for the U18’s replacing the hard working James McFadden.

Marcus Hahnemann was called upon on 47 minutes to save an effort from Diouf who was assited by Vemajil’s cross.

The visitors responded 2 minutes later when some good football from Gueye helped find Forshaw with Everton’s best chance of the game only for Amos to produce an outstanding save, then Long misses as his effort sails a foot passed the post.

Everton continued to look lively and again two more chances were created without an end product. England U17 player John Lundstram made Amos hold onto a shot and on the hour Gueye hit the bar as Everton could not break their duck.

Everton were certainly enjoying their spell on top in this game, Gueye forced Amos into another save on 66 minutes but Hahnemann had to be at his best as United attacked and a slip by Nsila let in Diouf only to be foiled by the American stopper.

Adam Forshaw on 79 minutes was denied by Amos and with the game coming to the end United made sure of the points when a lovely cross by substitute McGinty down the left found Lingard to seal victory.

United made two more changes in the last two minutes but it was too late then for an Everton fightback.
