If we sign a couple of quality players we will improve. If we didn't get Gibson, Pienaar and Jelavic last January I reckon we would have finished second half of the table.

Putting on some immensely blue-tinted glasses, but what if:
We have repeatedly done better in the second half of a season than the first, what if we do actually step up a gear from here where do you think we can finish? If you think about the points differences we have made up in the past, when we have been languishing in the bottom half of the table at Xmas and then gone on to gain a number of places on our 2nd half form could we dare to dream that we might end up in a loftier position than 4th or 3rd?
City are 9 points ahead, Man Utd potentially 15 points ahead. I don't think we could catch Utd, but City might be doable. Now how much would that be worth to put one over the red****e and ****ty in the same season on a budget of next to eff all.
Only one thing wrong with your idea about finishing fourth...
