I hate this argument. There is no indication he will improve either his goals or assists if he moves here "because he plays with better talent". Everyone said that about Rom and he actually regressed. Just because someone can do it on a crap team it means nothing if they move to a better one.

Isn't that the same gamble with every transfer?

Deffo there is a gamble with every transfer mate, the problem with the gamble on Zaha is that it could be a £70/80m gamble.

It is a gamble so is every transfer though, but at least he's Premier league proven and he will definitely improve our team. The price is ridiculous, but so was McGuire's fee, it's very late in the window, we are going to look foolish if we turn back now and the player supposedly wants to come. Be nice if he threw a TW in like.

The prices being thrown about for zaha have him as one of the best players in the world, he’s not even one of the best in the prem.
As said 2 weeks ago, 40 mil, fair enough but 75+, we are getting had over

He's the best player outside of the top six imo.

The 'best players in the world' now go for £100m+. Harry Maguire - a decent centre-half - has just gone for £80m.

I don't think we should or would pay £80m. But we've left it awful late to not now be willing to pay £65m at the least you'd think. It's mental how much Palace are asking for but the player signed a deal. The only real way we're gonna get the price any lower than £70m (and I'd say then we'd definitely have to pay it all - or most of it - upfront) is for him to hand in a transfer request.

I'd just pay what it takes at this stage and watch the fume from all quarters descend on us.

I just think now it's abundantly clear he's the main target (for this position).

If it was this time last week (which is what I was saying initally when we had our first bid rejected 8 days ago), there's more time.

I'm sure the club aren't panicking. But this wouldn't be a panic buy. This would be a quality buy that could really - along with Kean, Gomes etc - help push us on.

I still think something might turn with Zouma but at this stage it looks a very slim chance and it seems Tomori more likely. If we're losing quality in defence, then we need to make sure we've got quality in attack to compensate. As much as a coup Kean is, we still need more.
