Back in the 80s I managed to get to a schools football function at Goodison where Howard Kendall was the guest speaker. An old student friend who was then teaching in Merseyside got the tickets. I managed to say hello to Howard, then in the early days of managing Everton, but I remember access to him was limited and questions had to be submitted in writing and were vetted. Apparently, a previous event where Bobby Robson had been a guest had turned into a free for all where everybody wanted to know why he had turned us down as manager. The function was held on the Friday evening before a1-1 draw with Spurs where Sharp scored a wonder goal.

If anybody else was there, please reassure me that I am not inventing it all

Sister went out with Graham Allen when she went Uni. Kicked around with Jon Hills and a certain Michael Ball and their lasses. Ended up at Everton Xmas party circa 1997/8. Met all my heroes. Not jealous of her one bit. Definitely no animosity to this day. The bitch. 🤣
Jon Hills mum was a receptionist in my school, forgot that one - she always would talk to me cos I wore an Everton jacket.

Everton played Chelsea on New Year’s Day in 1994(got beat 4-2 under Jimmy Gabriel).

I went with my Chelsea supporting mate and we went for a pint post match in the “Ferret and Firkin” on Lots Road.

No sooner had we got to the bar Tony Cortes and his Dad walked in and ordered a drink. Cottee’s hair was still soaking wet.

I knew he was quick on the pitch but he was positively rapid off it!

Back when I worked for Showcase Cinemas, I was working on a Saturday night on concessions and in walks Tim Cahill with his family and comes over to my exact till to order while his missus was getting the tickets. Took all my will not to freak out over it and even managed to get his autograph, which I subsequently lost by the time I got home

A few weeks after that, a few members of the West Brom squad, the night before they either played us or the RS, came in and got fast tracked to a screen because one of our managers, who turned out later to be a robbing scumbag, was from down that way

….another one. Dave Hickson managed a team I played for in the ‘70s and he asked me to play in a charity game at Littlewoods in Wavertree. I was only about 18, turned up and Derek Temple is getting changed next to me. I think Brian Harris also played but it was great playing in the same team as Temple.

Was over at the Everton v Southampton match on St Stephen's day about 11 years ago with a mate from Sligo. My mate told me "my auld lad knows Seimi's auld fella well and I wanna chat him". We were at the pitch hours before kick off so I said to the mate that we will wait for the buck to land at the players car park.

Sure enough Seimi landed very early and before any other players so I shouted at him that we were over from Sligo and we wanted to chat him.

Seimi lands over all smiles and in the best of form and my mate says to him "my auld fella knows your auld fella well and his name is George". Seimi looked preplexed and says "my Dad's name isn't George'.

I don't know what came over my mate (probably still full as a tick from the night before) but he says ""you're auld fella is George"

Seimi looked very perturbed about the news he didn't know his real father and beat a hasty retreat to get into the ground and away from the two eejits questioning his parentales.

We had a clatter of pints before the game and great seats right on the sideline in the The Bullens. Obviously, I started the verbals on Seimi straight away and he heard me and laughed.

I swear he scored the wondergoal that day to shut us up.

To this day, we still rip the piss if my mate about it.

You're jealous of your sister banging an Everton footballer?

I vaguely remember being there, but was in the same hotel in London, as the Everton team the night before, I think the charity shield. Me dad stayed up into the night playing pool with the lads. Apparently I was running around the hotel corridors. Talking in the 80s obviously

In 1985, just after Heysel, Everton were in Toronto for an exhibition match against some team I can't remember. Afterward we got to chat with the players on the pitch and I got a few autographs. As I was approaching John Bailey, my aunt Janet yelled for me to get his autograph, which surprised the hell out of me as I didn't know she was even at the game (we lived in London, two hours west). Bailey just looked at me, winked and said, "Best do as she says, I guess."
