Reasons to be cheerfull

Luke Garbutt captained the England Under 17 side this morning as they cruised to a 4-0 victory over Azerbaijan and booked their place in the Elite Round of the UEFA European U17 Championship.

Ipswich Town's Connor Wickham struck a hat-trick and Benik Afobe struck his third goal in two games to complete the rout.

After playing the whole eighty minutes in the 6-2 defeat of Kazakhstan on Monday, Ross Barkley was left out of today's match.

England will now face Serbia on Saturday having already secured their place in the Elite Round.

Luke Garbutt skippered England Under-17s to a 1-0 win over Serbia on Saturday.

The left-back, who arrived at Everton in the summer, guided his side to the narrow victory in the qualifying round of the European Under-17 Championships in Azerbaijan.

The young Lions had already won their previous two games, defeating the hosts and Kazakhstan.

Also in the England side was young Everton midfielder Ross Barkley. The goalscorer against Serbia was Arsenal's Benik Afobe.

The next stage of Euro action at this agegroup is in March next year.

Two really good prospects!!!
