Yakubu or Donovan

I have a feeling that the Yak will go, but I don't think we'll reinvest the funds in Donovan. If Moyes is going to use Beckford as the lone striker, he'll have Saha, Vaughan and Anichebe available from the bench to offer support. I can't see him leaving a £10m asset sitting in the stands, when we're broke. As the gaffer has said, Donovan is 28. Even if we had £8m to spend on him, he's already in his prime and he'd have no resale value. LCAB suggests that another loan deal might be possible in January. I think that seems like the most likely option.

i keep thinking about the sitter the Yak missed at the world cup...nevermind he is still a great natural finisher. I'd love to think it is possible for us to have both as Billycopper suggests. I think we all know deep down Everton wont bring in anyone of any massive value until the last few days of the market if at all. Boil the coffee and book the 31st off work and well there is nothing left to do but watch this space..

i think we have to think a season or 2 down the line.

when yaks contact is up for renewal (next summer ?) he is gonna want an increase in his wages , i think he will be looking for 75k now thats been offered to arteta.
would you want to pay 75k wages to a player who hasnt got double figures for 2 seasons ?

hes got to be sold and replaced at some point!!!

this game is a great snap shot of what yak offers nowadays and why donovan is a much better squad option imo

One is not related to the other. If they sell Yakubu, that doesn't mean they'll overpay for Donovan.

speaking of the yak, where was he in yesterdaý's win???????

He needs a run of games and will be firing all cylinders

This.

Since his injury he's never had a string of 5 games or so. When he got about 3-4 games back to back last season, you could see him getting sharper, fitter.

Another one where Yak was getting back to his fitness. Missed sitters, yes. But also assisted, made space, and did enough for us to hammer them 5-1. And we were 3-1 up without Donovan. So poor example to be fair.

He needs a run of games. If not, January window is open.

Yakubu can play one position, Donovan can play two or maybe 3. Makes sense to try to get Donovan back.

At the expense of a striker who's goal scoring record pre-injury was second to Thiery Henry (if im not mistaken)? At the expense of a striker when most people were whinging about last season was...getting another striker?

Dont get me wrong, I want Donovan. It wont happen like as we dont have the funds. But weakening our strike force to accomadate a winger who could maybe play as a striker (its unknown if he could in the prem) when we have the Anichebe, Bily, Gueye, Osman, Arteta (if needs be), and Baxter (again if needs be) who can all play in Donovan's position doesnt sit well with me.

The Yak will be bobby banging em in this season.

OK. I will try to be moderately serious.

Hard to choose.

The Yak is tried and tested in this calibre and injuries aside nearly always comes up with the goods. Season after season, regardless of the club.

Donovan has had a fleeting stint here and did exceptionally well.

Conclusion - Everyone knows how Yakubu plays and many can't stop him. After Donovan has been here for a while, would people get wise to his movement and attributes, and be able to nullify them?

Would Donovan be as effective as Yakubu after people learn to cancel him out??

This is the question.

(Sorry. Similar to what kenada_blue just posted)

Part of my reasoning is a feeling that Beckford will get us goals. Yakubu's max sell on value is now. We may need cover in the midfield if either Pienaar or Arteta leave, now or next summer. I won't be gutted if Yak stays and Donovan doesn't come now though, as long as everyone else stays.

i agree with your points but i still think that game shows a typical performance from both players.
yaks fitness (or lack of it ) was not the issue in that match.i actually reckon hs fitness looks pretty good .

he had a good cross for artetas goal + involved in most of the others too .
he found some good space and showed good strength throughout the match .
i think this is a typical good side of yaks play that we see a lot.

then we look at ...

10 yards out , only the keeper to beat ........ doesnt even force a save and hits the post.

penalty (which wasnt a penalty - yak just falls over imo) , lazy kick keeper saves easily.

gets on the end of a lovely ball across the box , 1 on 1 with the keeper , misses from 6 yards.

gets the ball on the half way line , takes the ball upfeild , 3 or 4 everton players run 3 1/4s of the pitch at full sprint to provide the overlap , yak ignores them , takes a very poor weak shot from a stupid range.

this is the other side of his game i also see a lot of , poor techinique accuracy and decision making + occasional poor application.

then i look at donovans cameo role.... typical him......energetic , determined , every pass and shot is precise forcing the tackle or the save .his technique awareness application and decision making are much harder to fault.

i just think if i had to pick one to have at the club , donovan would be the better option skillwise and financially.
