What a manager
You still seem unsure of the overarching point despite having asked twice.
Let me be concise and see if it helps.
Martinez was aiming to smash the glass ceiling created by Moyes dour defensive hoof ball so his target was BETTER than 6th or 7th and ultimately trophies to re-align the club with it's great historic traditions. The promising first season with the introduction of fabulous loanees and moderate buys (relative to the elite clubs) put us on the starting blocks but only a simpleton could not see we needed a SQUAD of such talent to press on and we didn't have the dough to do it.
The dregs of the market and players of Moyes glass ceiling era were never going to cut it and the inevitable collapse began. The crazy thing is we've since reverted to lowest common denominator football with Koeman and Allardyce and look at the screeching from the faithful!!!
This is quite a simple premise if you clear your mind of Moyes 6th or 7th without silverware being what this club is about, but if you can't you can't - try not to fret about it
But weren't Utd champions at the time?Could also be argued that the only decent season Martinez ever had in the PL Spurs and United sacked their managers they were that bad.
I appreciate your conviction and respect your opinion I just disagree, mate.“moyes dour defensive hoof ball” is an absolute embarrassment of a statement. We certainly didn’t play that type of football when we had a side containing Arteta, Peinaar, Lescott, Jags, Baines etc, you are talking out of your arse on that point.
I appreciate your well put together post, but it’s a complete fantasy as was any idea Martinez had of smashing this imaginary “glass ceiling” you have put together in your head. He was out of his depth once Moyes side broke up, the football was terrible and he went from bad to worse.
keep imagining him to have been better than that, but he wasn’t.
Son of Davek lol lol lolI appreciate your conviction and respect your opinion I just disagree, mate.
What a manager
How many points did we have in 87 when we won the Title?
If you can tell me that without googling it then I will concede that points in a season is important.
The points you get do not matter, only the place you finish.
So if we win the league on less points than Moyes got in his 4th place season, you’d rank that as a lesser achievement?
Go away.
What utter drivel. Moshiri is not our manager and Martinez would possibly have got us relegated. The further he went from Moyes team the worse it got. Moshiri is a committed investor, no more. Brands and Silva will work but they have had neither time nor the rub of the green.Three seasons under Martinez = a 5th spot, 2 cup SFs, last 16 in Europe...on a minimal spend
Three seasons under Moshiri = a 7th spot, nowhere in the cups, nowhere in Europe....after handing hsi variety of hand picked plant pots a mountain of cash.
"The Mosh" really had some people off.
More inconvenient truths.
Genuine question, what makes you think it will work with brands and Silva mate ?What utter drivel. Moshiri is not our manager and Martinez would possibly have got us relegated. If the league is very competitive you might win it with lower points but actually a bigger achievement. Everything has to be put in to context. The point is, in order to get more points, you have to win more games and lose fewer. Which we did. We also finished 4th with a minus goal difference. I guess that is some achievement to be fair.
When we won the league, I was 5, so I honestly couldn't tell you without looking, but I do know it will have a) been more points, and b) been more games in the season.
But i digress, the difference between a league title winning side and the difference between finishing 4th or 5th is ridiculous, and you know it.
Now, I didn't say that did I. Might wanna read it back.
Also, go away? Hahahahaha.
Am I not allowed to have an opinion (not the 1 you thought I had mind) that is contrary to one's you've been told to have?

Because at times we are really good. We have suffered key injuries and bad calls with VAR. We also still have deadwood to get rid of so we can get genuine depth in the squad. Silva has shown excellence but needs a deeper squad to make it consistent. I really think we should get behind the slightly longer term plan.Genuine question, what makes you think it will work with brands and Silva mate ?
