Anyone who wants 17th and a cup should realize that Kev and Ross won't hang around for mid table mediocrity.

5th placed finish establishes us as one of the top clubs in the PL

Nothing beats seeing your team lift silveware

But i'm sure the Wigan fans may have a different viewpoint
Every Wigan fan I've spoken to say winning the cup was their greatest moment and they would swap it for anything, especially not staying up for perhaps another season.

pmsl at Everton winning a trophy.

West Ham will put us out of the FA Cup, and even if we're lucky enough to scrape past them we'll get our arses handed to us in the next round no doubt about it.

Europa League, haha. We'll beat Young Boys, then the first semi serious team we come up against will smash us.

I think it's more a case of us finishing about 14th and no silverware, not even a sniff.

These type of threads do my head in, I would rather win the next game to stop this massive slide we are on.

A team playing like we our at the moment won't win anything, confidence is shot to pieces. We need to focus on the next game only.

I've seen us finish 5th or above 5 different times and it never seemed to lead us into being one of the top clubs, like.

I mean we did it last year and that hasn't really made us boss.

I've seen us finish 15th with a trophy and also 4th without one and the former kickstarted us as a club, we bought in kanchelskis and finished 6th the next year and it was brilliant, the latter we bought beattie and kroldrup, got knocked out of europe twice in one month, flirted with relegation and ended up finishing 11th.

You know?

Your best players will stay and have their contracts extended if we are 5th. The gap of the prize money between 5th and 17th is huge. Doing well in the league give you some kind of prestige in the media. That helps you to attract players to join. 5th gets you a Europa place and will attract better players to join you if the manager is willing to sign them.

Winning F.A Cup is great but that won't increase the profile of a football club unlike the league. Remember Boro, Portsmouth? They won the F.A Cup but do you think they suddenly became huge after they won the cup?

PL is always the priority. I bet top players think the same.

Did Ipswich after they finished 5th or Pardew's newcastle?

You forgot Aston Villa.

That is another question because they only do that in ONE season. On the other hand, Everton finish in between 5th to 7th something like 7 times in the past decade. Now in many people' perspective, Everton are the best of the rest. Top players are willing to join.

Mirallas, Lukaku, Howard (when he joined).

They are top players in our perspective.

So you agree with the other points then?

Not really.

My disagreement comes down to two points.

1) You seem to think that keeping in the top 8, attracts and keeps top players. I've always felt that the fact that we're a club who isn't competeing for trophies, isn't in the cl and can't pay top wages or fees has hindered us in that respect. We couldn't keep rooney or even rodwell. Mirallas and Fellaini seem the perfect example of this. In that they were players in smaller league who we took a chance on (our appeal is that we're playing in a big league and so can offer mroe money and exposure than belgium or greece) and then will sell once a big boy wants them. The fact that we're top 10 might make a difference but the likes of ba and fer and sessegnon and valencia who end up at even bad prem teams points to me that the prem is the attraction not the top 5.

I mean we've been selling a star every other year under kenwright and buying prospects more than anything else.

2) Your argument is that finishing top 5 provides you the resources to finish top 5 which provides you the resources to finish top 5. Which like what's the point? What do you gain by that? Football is about winning trophies, if you don't do that why bother?
