Would you be willing to sell a big name to reinvest?

I think we need to fork out a decent amount for a playmaker tbh, 10-15million. Someone who is a younger version of Pienaar and Osman. Someone to add creativity and feed Lukaku. It's what we've missed this season, someone who can play between the lines and has a deft touch and final ball.

Aside from that though we don't need to bring in big money signings, we need to build around the young core that we have and keep those key players at the club.

That and a pacey winger, but we really should have £25m ish to play with this summer, depending of course on how much Elstone and the boys have squirreled down the OOC sofa.

I'd like to think so.
Would allow us to bring in some real quality to replace some of the deadwood.

In the past we've sold out of necessity thankfully the TV deal that kicked in last season has increased our income sufficiently to change that and we'll have enough money to substantially invest in the squad without being forced to sell any of our best players.

I hope this is true much more than I believe it to be.

We'd have trouble unloading Barkley for over 15M methinks so it makes sense to hold on to him. Rom no (unless a crazy offer comes around and he forces his hand), in todays striker market even someone like Gomis would go for 15M. I also don't think we'll see a offer for Mirallas over 9M given his age, injury history and his own Mirallassness.

Might as well keep them all, the youngs and olds will get the summer off and no Europa so we'll see.

Stones
Galloway
Besic
McCarthy
Barkley
Lukaku

Garbutt also unsellable but may leave on a free.

All else can go.

Martinez needs to go back to basics and do what we did last season, bring in 2-3 clever loan signings to bolster the squad whilst using the TV cash to add a £10-15 million player to the first team (a right sided playmaker who drifts inside ala tadic/pienaar would be ideal)

Get rid of the deadwood like alcaraz, distin, pienaar and Kone (won't happen) and bring in possibly 1-2 free deals/cheap signings to replace them.

If:

- no money otherwise

or:

- we can only afford crappy McGeady/Kone-like players

and:

- we can sell a player for way, way above market value (Barkley 50m, Stones 30m)

and:

- ALL of that money is reinvested in the squad for players to slot right into the first XI

then:

I feel it would benefit the club.

However, there is absolutely no way on earth we can have no money to spend and buy at least one first XI player this summer. The board are taking the fans for mugs.

There must be 20m / 30m to go into the team without sales. But if not, the above is the best we can hope for, I think.

The only way to progress is to keep your best players. Keep them both and build on the current squad. This season has been kick in the teeth with Europe taking too much time and energy for such a small squad. I'm confident if we hold on to the players we have and strengthen certain areas, next year we will be right up there again.
