The way I see it is:
1. We had a new squad that hadn’t gelled
2. We’d play city, Arsenal, Spurs, United and Chelsea in our first fixtures.
We got the results we would often get against these teams and that in effect put us in a “false” position because we had condenced these fixtures so early on, but confidence was shot.
I’m pretty sure we would survived but equally it wasn’t a sure fire and in hindsight I think we should praise the board for taking action action koeman (who looked defeatist) and securing survival. We are at least on the dance floor for next season.
We had all high hopes from the transfers. No one was saying the signings were terrible at the start of the season. I do wonder whether we had a reverse fixture list (say we had played the 6 worse teams at the start) we could have got some results and built momentum.
Wish the season was over and just crack on with a new plan.
