WORTH TODAY?

alan ball

Player Valuation: £70m
I had the pleasure of chatting with Bob Latchford today who was my favourite player after the great Alan Ball. I wonder with today's ridiculous transfer fee's what would the Latch be worth today? I would say in the region of around £20M. What do you think?

english, 30 league goals in a season, the abilty to walk on water, 20 mil wouldn't buy his left leg. i loved latch me.

I hated Latch when he came as my idol Joe Royle was replaced by him - 2 totally different strikers, Joe was a workhorse and a goal scorer the Latch became a natural predator for goals - todays value 35 million easily - Alan Ball would be priceless in todays market up there with Messi -60-100 million - he was that good was Bally! sold for peanuts by HC - He did the same with Bobby Collins too! another Everton great!

Wouldnt sully his name by comparing him to the mercenaries of todays game mate. He played in a golden era for football, when passion and ability meant more than a transfer fee.

The thought of him going anywhere for 20 million pounds makes me sick! Top bloke.

Fair play mate. I agree with the non comparison thing. That's what makes players great, that fact you can't change history.

Pity Latchford isn't on telly as a pundit for Everton games. The type of ex player who's opinion would actually mean something to me instead of all the usual tits on Sky etc.

He was 23/24 when we paid a british record fee ( that stood for 3yrs )

So the answer is what is the record fee between 2 English clubs

50 mill? then add some for 30 goals then add some for being English

At what age would he be, depends on sell on value. If he was 25 , he would be worth 60 million

....I liked Big Bob, but a bit of a reality check. He wasn't in the same ball park as Alan Ball or even the likes of Kanchelskis. He played for England but wasn't a regular. Latch knew were the net was, he came alive in the penalty area, in fact I can't think of a goal he scored from outside. He was a big bear, an ok target man but not particularly the type to run channels and create a goal from nothing. I'm finding it difficult to find somebody similar playing today, the game is much more about speed and mobility but goalscorers will always be a valuable commodity. I'd go £16m, but fully understand the sentiment - top guy and great memories.

Great goalscorer and was my hero when I was growing up. Sharpie was better all round player than Latch, and played in a much better team too!
Big Bob easily worth 20 million and more nowadays.

£loads.

I just missed out on seeing him, but my dad said he was great.

...makes me realise how old I am when you folk refer to your Dad's. It only seems like yesterday I was jumping up and down at Elland Rd when Big Bob dived to score that fabulous equaliser in the semi final against West Ham.
