It's rife in the game but absolutely no chance you'd take that risk on a match winning ball to get to the final. It'll be trivial stuff in the early rounds when it's happening.

He wouldn't want to lose it either. You could tell it was the preasure just watching him in his chair.

This was way worse than the 85 black, which was an awkward cut. This was straight and off the spot. It's a career definer. He doesn't have three world titles in his pocket, and won't add three more like Davis. This is more of a Jimmy White moment, the best chance a fella would ever have to win a world title.

The agony for Allen is he will know that was the chance. I doubt he'll feature on the single table again.

Just simple human frailty.

This is why people will feel sorry for him. In that moment, he was us.

Very suspicious to me. He had Wu beaten a couple of times and inexplicably lost his control of the table, so it wasn't just that miss on the black.

Yeah it was worse as a straight up pot to be fair but not the win the title like 1985. It will for sure knock him backwards but it`s a stretch to say he will not be back on the single table set up as a result.

The final shot of a world semi final is about as unlikely a time to throw a game as you could ever come up with.

Just pure pressure. A terrible miss

That's pressure, Dave. Allen will know he has the game to compete with the greats - but will also know he is not a great. He will have seen Shaun Murphy in the final and thought "I don't have to beat peak Ronnie or peak Selby to become world champion." He'll have known this was it, at 40 years of age. Nobody becomes world champion for the first time after 40. Stuart Bingham was 39. Allen will have known it was now or never.

It'll be never.

I hope it's a stretch and I am proven wrong. But I think that's that for Allen.

As I said above, it wasn't just the final frame or his final shot...far from it. The preceding frames were chocca with 'mistakes' by Allen.

Just saying that a feller in deep financial troubles doesn't necessarily make his situation go away with a WC finalist or winners cheque...

Wu missed the pink right before Allen missed the black. In fact Allen made a tough pink before missing the sitter on the black. It's just one of those things in sport that happens under big pressure that you can't explain.

Even if a player is dabbling with fixing they'd still want to win the world championship. To get that close and to throw it away I'm not having it.
