World Snooker Championship

I don't think Ronnie has played his very best snooker even today - but he hasn't really needed to. Kyren Wilson couldn't take his chances earlier on in the first session, and then let Ronnie completely run away with in from about 12-8 onwards.

That semi against Selby was absolutely titanic.

Only 44? Most players are on the slide at this point. I'm not saying he won't get one more but nothing says Ronnie is going to reel off another 4, he didn't even do that at his peak.

He's THAT talented though, despite 6 world titles and a record amount of ranking event wins he's still considered to have underachieved in his career. If he can have a solid spell of 3 or 4 years, like he seemed to have around the early 2010s, he can definitely win a few more.

Definitely talented to be able to do this at his age, I don’t think he'll want to keep the grind going though. It seems the covid situation suited him and he put in a bit more effort. The problem is that 3rd session meltdown is likely to happen more often.

I hope he does go on as he has the ability to do it, just whether the will is there.

I think he'll want to win at least one more to equal Hendry's record. They're not the best of mates, he'll get such a kick out of eclipsing his old rival once and for all. Ronnie says he doesn't care but no one takes any notice. I think the day he finally does pack it will be in the most random way.

He is correct in saying that the younger players other than China perhaps are not just coming through - Snooker is dying in the UK snooker clubs venues for an amateur player are getting less to compete in working men clubs with two tables disappearing fast when I joined a team two divisions in the league one hand 16 teams in it the Division 2 had 22 teams in it now its down to one league with 8 teams left since 1980 - add to that youth clubs & I played teams in a few they have shut too.....
Added to that the upkeep of a snooker table is not that profitable for a business owner at any of the above venues .....
What Ronnie was pointing out it's a boom & bust situation -
indeed Eric Bristow reckons young English dart players will have the same problem in future years as basic venues close down ....
You only learn in match conditions - I seen great youngsters in my time asked them to sign on for my snooker team straight away - some made it in my team some never had never match temperament, just could not score the same as in a practice match - at the age of 44 he is correct that outside the top 16 the form is poor to push him hard - he is a genius, and I predict if he ever packs in the sport will die even more - he is a pleasure to watch a pure one off player ever...... never to be seen again for entertainment value ......
