Wimbledon F.C.

I was at that game. My ex-brother in law was a huge Wimbledon fan. Thing I always remember is when one of our players went round their full back and got rugby tackled. I mean a full arms shoulders round the waist rugby tackle. We only got a free kick cos they could get away with stuff like that back then . Awful team to watch

Remember Vinnie jones almost cutting McMahon in half after just a few minutes. Was it two minutes I think.
I knew then that the S would bottle it
If I remember right it was about 5 seconds. One of the quickest yellow cards ever. On the one hand it was good to see McMahon get bullied, but that kind of "tackle" has no place on a football pitch.

I remember when they bullied and out battled us in a 3-1 FA Cup tie in 87....we had been to the Final in each of previous three years....and had a proud cup record. Think we had already beaten them twice that year too......I have hated them since. They were horrible and revelled in that notoriety - hilarious how they then ended up with that mad Scandinavian with the turned up wellies as their manager! Can’t remember if he was still there when they were finally relegated.

I know Segers comes in the spotlight for them on that final day miracle for us, but how Holdsworth put his header over the bar when they were already two up suggested it was indeed a most remarkable game!

Yep, the FA cup game was on TV live. On a Sunday if I remember. I was a student at the time and remember watching that game with one of the worst hangovers Ive ever had.
I wont be sober til after New Year so best get my bit out of the way. Wimbledon were a bunch of shot houses. Relied in intimidation. A few went on to play in proper teams, Keith Curle, loads more I cant remember. Got to the point I wouldnt watch any of their games even if on TV. So glad when they went down with their welly wearing manager.

But what happened next is wrong. Handing over the club to MK was totally plastic. I cant abide anything to do with the MK team. Its like Bury now, struggling like hell but giving up their place in the league and giving it to some where like Bognor Regis (aplogies to anyone their, just picking an example).

So, for Wimbledon as a club to come back I think is brilliant. Like I said before, my ex brother in law is a Wimbledon fan. Proper football bloke. Im chuffed for likes of him that his team is back in their town. If they played like the old team i wouldnt be so rose tinted.

And Vinny Jones bottled it in 94. I was there for that one. Saw it with my own eyes.

Personally I’m too young to even remember this team, when I started properly getting into football was around the time they were talking about being shipped out to Milton Keynes. However, ever since the fans decided to resurrect the club as AFC Wimbledon I’ve always kept a keen eye on results etc. as I think it’s a brilliant little project of heritage.

However, as GOT is filled with many members much older than me, I’m looking for people’s opinions and accounts from around the time they began their rise from the Fourth Division up to the 1988 Cup win.

Were they really as nuts as the Crazy Gang moniker says? Did they actually have decent players? Were they more aggressive than day Revie’s Leeds team?

Are there any good articles, videos, films etc. you’ve read about them?

It’s just well before my time but I find it fascinating.
A very condensed story of what happened.

Must admit I think their disregard for all things MK Dons is absolutely hilarious lol
Hilarious? No, they have a point.
I love local derbies, games with friction. If I ever got the chance to watch Wimbledon v MK plastic I know which end Id be in.

I’m not saying they don’t have a point. I’m saying that the way a club I don’t care about at all trolls another club I have no care for is funny.

Carried out a couple of assaults on Tottenham players which nowadays would have resulted in very lengthy bans but probably weren't even booked at the time.

John Fashanu on Gary Mabbutt was basically GBH and Vinny Jones on Gary Stephens nearly ended his career.

Personally, apart from beating LFC in the cup final, i am glad they disappeared into obscurity.
This...and their 'kin plastic pitch

I took my Evertonian lad to the away game at Selhurst on New Years Day 1996 which from memory Blues won 3-2 after being 3 up. Pretty sure Kanchelskis scored. My lad was 8 at the time and absolutely loved it.
