Will Barkley reach the heights Gerrard did?

No. Didnt much like Gerrard, got a begrudging admiration for him though. Ross is a decent player with natural skill on the ball to die for but not responsible enough for me. I would love to be proved wrong on that but just saying what I feel.

Unequivocally, no.

I'd love to be wrong, but Gerrard has/had twice the footballing brain Barkley does.
Ridiculous

When Gerrard was Barkley's age he was getting sent off in Merseyside derbies, was on the bench a lot and when he did play he was ' out of his depth '... his own words.

It wasn't until 3 years after his debut that he began to play more regular.

You're probably wrongfully comparing Gerrard at his peak to Barkley of now.

Heights? A few cups and what? Failure at the international level. Never won the league.

Disgraceful that he's anywhere near any discussion of best ever.

That said, if Ross can achieve that, I'd be made up.

Would love him to stay at us but I wonder will the fans on his back all the time end up pushing him away should a city bid come in? Our fans have been nothing short of a disgrace at times with the young lads like Ross and Rom, they need time not heckled when going through a bad patch

Barkley has more natural ability than gerrard, whether he has that drive that made gerrard what he was remains to be seen, few do, I alos think he needs a manager who will play him center mid to develop

He managed 10 trophies, and Christ, I'd be happy if Barkley achieves 1/10th of that here.
That's what i'm saying. Not sure why i got negged. You get rated as a player by winning stuff and putting performances in on the big stage. I have no doubt that Barkley could put the performances in (in the future), but he probably won't be getting too many CL games and Cup finals to do it in

if he didnt win the CL in 05 then i do think gerrard would have been less hyped to the extent of the furore over him effing off

Gerard had the one thing I doubt we'll ever see from Ross, a fabulous engine! That and his sheer refusal to give up is what made him such an effective player. If Ross has all the talent in the world, he will never match the heights of Gerard or Rooney without the energy and drive this so far, he seems to lack! I would love to see him come good as he seems a genuinely nice kid, but I think he will end up in that 'what could have been' mould.

Agree. No one is doubting his raw talent but Gerrard had a fire in his belly (when playing for Liverpool) that Barkley doesnt have and you cant teach or coach it. Barkley is more Rodwell than Gerrard.

No chance at all will he match the level Gerrard reached. He just can't do the basics right. He needs to knuckle down and get his mind back on his football.

Why are you comparing Ross Barkley's engine at 21 years old to that of Gerrard throughout his career ?

Do you remember Gerrard when he was 20/21 ? Groin problems, back injuries, operation after operation.
