Will Barkley reach the heights Gerrard did?

Gerrard is a snidey piece of work, and not half as good as the media want him to be, but nevertheless you can't dispute that we'd probably love a player to retire having had as big an impact on the pitch for us as he did for them.

Ross is probably the nearest we have in terms of playing style. Do you reckon he will reach that level (or beyond)?

no chance

Yes absolutely.

As others have said, Ross has an incredible amount of talent and has the world at his feet. From here the sky is the limit for Ross and he has everything in his locker to succeed and become one of the best players in the world. Will he reach the heights Gerrard did ? .... depends on how are we calculating this really. Gerrard winning honours and especially both of europes top trophies propelled him to the next level and so if this has anything to do with it, then Ross has no chance under the current board of Everton.

But who are we kidding, Barkley has 24 months left at Everton tops before moving on to that next level. Unless things change drastically here at Everton, then he will move.

....I'm not sure about the comparison with Gerrard, I think it's more appropriate to ask if he is going to fulfil his undoubted potential. I so want him to do well but I have increasing doubts. The true top players come in and produce, we see Barkley's impact too infrequently. I hear the age, out of position and injury excuses.

I watched Frank Lampard yesterday, still busting a gut to get in the box and score a goal. I'm not seeing Barkley display the same enthusiasm. It really is up to him to step up the plate, having all the ability is not the entire requirement.

No he wont, pure and simple. Gerrard it wasn't just about ability but his leadership presence on the pitch, something Ross doesn't have now and i cant see him having as he gets older. When they we're facing defeat so many times he dragged them back, when we are like that and it isn't going his way Ross goes missing, the mental side of the game, i cant see him sorting that out anytime soon.

No as it stands...but 21 years old is absolutely no age to be writing off a midfielder of Ross' mold - they generally peak between 27-29!

I don't think Ross will ever win the league at Everton

Gerrard had already as a 20 year old win the UEFA cup, FA Cup and league cup. He had drive.

Barkley has the talent, but this year he has stuttered. Seems to be thinking too much when he has the ball. Needs to have that drive and aggressiveness added to his game.

Sure, but was he played on the wing though?
