Wildlife in your Garden

See hundreds of swifts round my way. Theres not as many old buildings suitable for them to nest in now I think which is part of the problem.

Houses have become “ too tidy “

There used to be hundreds of them screaming around in the sky where I lived as kid, all nesting under the soffits and gutters of the old houses by us.

Slowly over the years, the houses started getting done up one by and the swift numbers started dropping dramatically - exact same with a the sparrows.

It’s tragic.

Starling numbers down 82% this year too.

That's a huge drop , as a kid they where everywhere , as you said these where in every nook & cranie in the old houses even in the old street lights.

The little trees in Church St and Lord St at night, would be full of them too. All chirping away, as they thought it was still daytime with the lights !

It’s supposed to be a pesticide that is sprayed on grass doing their food sources in.

Which I thought had been banned, as it’s the same one that’s wiping bees out too.

Funny you say that I have had plenty of Bee's in my garden the last few years where some have hardly seen any.
Had quite a few Queens checking out holes in and around my house & garden this past week or two.

….seen quite a few really small birds this year, I think they’re wren. I have them visiting my garden and noticed them in my daughters this morning. Tiny little things.
Lack of rainfall - Two wood pigeons on my roof blast water at them while washing the car - did they move = NO - did they try to dring the hard jet of water = Yes ..... & crapped all over my car the next day:mad:

Got home from work this afternoon and looked out the window to see the first lot of ducklings on the canal this spring. Looks like there are 17 which is the biggest batch I've seen for one mother. See if she manages to hang on to that many, the Heron's and the Seagulls will think it's Xmas 😔
