Once your router arrives and your daughter is up and running on the interweb, give her this url
TVCatchup - Never Miss A Show Again
They have an iPod app that lets you watch freeview channels for free on the iPod touch. The quality on a handheld is much better than it is on a computer, requires less bandwidth etc.
It was free too
For got to mention, it's worth checking out T mobile, they do some sort of web and walk tariff or something.
At the moment T mobile have a half price sale on their pay as you go phones, but the bonus is that the sims come with free texts and internet for life when you top up with £10. Not sure if there is some sort of capping involved in that one, but could be a good option.
You can always buy a second hand iphone and get it unlocked and pop that T mobile sim card in it![]()
You could always try borrowing your daughters iPod touch, go into settings and then wifi, and see if any networks appear near the places you're parked up (I'm assuming by ranks you mean you're a taxi driver).
You might get lucky as some phone boxes give off wifi signals, so it's worth having a test run and seeing if you are near any of the public wifi networks.
If you are, then iPod touch with a 3.99 tariff should suit you if you just want it for net access
The free internet, is only free because you're either using your home service, which you've already paid for, or people haven't locked their wireless networks, which means you can piggy back their service.
Free services in commercial premises etc are free because you're using a public access point that doesn't charge, there are some, but the majority of public access points charge for wifi access. The 3.99 is so you can gain access to these services
Wifi isn't free as such, someone somewhere has to pay for it. The free bit only comes in when someone either hasn't locked their service, or has decided they want to provide that service for free
