Had these kind of threads before, so using the search button, saved me a lot of typing.
Didn't find out I was a chosen one, untill I was a twelve year old. Looking back, I firmly believe (or at least like to) it was fate that coupled Everton to Fortuna Sittard in the ECWC back in 1985. From the moment I first heard the name Everton, there was something mystical about them. Started looking for their results in the months before the encounter.
Remember listening to the radio, when Everton played Fortuna at Goodison Park. As I was only a twelve year old at the time I wasn't able to travel down to Goodison to see the game myself. I never forget the applausse Fortuna got after the match from the Everton crowd. (That was what the commentator told us at least
).
Did go to the Sittard game though and was stood directly alongside a group of Evertonians. As there was quite some bad press in those days regarding the English teams hooligan following, I wasn't feeling to comfortable to stand so close to the away supporters. One of the travelling Evertonians must have noticed that, as he came over and handed me his scarf. From that day on I was hooked on Everton FC. Was great to see them destroying Bayern Munich in the next round and unbelievable to see them lift the ECWC in Rotterdam.
So, maybe I was not born an Evertonian, but definately chosen to become one and will remain so, untill my dying day.
