Why do you support Everton?

Had these kind of threads before, so using the search button, saved me a lot of typing.

Didn't find out I was a chosen one, untill I was a twelve year old. Looking back, I firmly believe (or at least like to) it was fate that coupled Everton to Fortuna Sittard in the ECWC back in 1985. From the moment I first heard the name Everton, there was something mystical about them. Started looking for their results in the months before the encounter.

Remember listening to the radio, when Everton played Fortuna at Goodison Park. As I was only a twelve year old at the time I wasn't able to travel down to Goodison to see the game myself. I never forget the applausse Fortuna got after the match from the Everton crowd. (That was what the commentator told us at least:unsure::D).

Did go to the Sittard game though and was stood directly alongside a group of Evertonians. As there was quite some bad press in those days regarding the English teams hooligan following, I wasn't feeling to comfortable to stand so close to the away supporters. One of the travelling Evertonians must have noticed that, as he came over and handed me his scarf. From that day on I was hooked on Everton FC. Was great to see them destroying Bayern Munich in the next round and unbelievable to see them lift the ECWC in Rotterdam.

So, maybe I was not born an Evertonian, but definately chosen to become one and will remain so, untill my dying day.

A calling at a young age coupled with a gentle nudge from an uncle by way of a team photo.

First game was at Crystal Palace in 1972, sadly lost 2-1, the continued decline of the 1970 championship side.

Suffered a lot of disappointing seasons since then but when we do have success it comes with incredible jubilation, something the glory hunter will never experience or understand.

You never turn your back on family.

Pressure from the old man, plus i recall liking blue! ha.... first game everton v woking in the cup, i cn recall sheedy hitting a post i think!

Just look at that result to-day up and down my nerves are wrecked, still shaking bottle of Merlot opened relax, love u Everton no other team in the world(y)

Being from the midlands and live in Manchester, I can only assume I was chosen by a higher power. Adrian Heath maybe?

I support Everton because my dad did. That is the basic reason. Its inherited.

There is also the fact that Everton is class. Not money or branding or SkySport Super Sunday favourites but class. It is Dixie Dean and Tommy Lawton, It is Harvey, Ball and kendall. It is the massed blue legions of the old Goodison. It's the Street end roaring support as we are losing. It is history. It is the feeling of being with a mate whenever you meet a blue. Its part of my life.

thaks Dad.

not actually 100% sure as i didnt see much as my dad as i grew up
[mums not really a footy fun, calls herself a blue like but only knows 'arteta
because hes been on most of me tops the last couple of seasons,
from what me mums said ive had every kit since ive been born,
going to school everything was 'everton' from playing football to arguing with the rs' fans.
was nothing worse than going in to school after a derby defeat HATED IT
having a class of 10 and theres only two of us everton [me an me best mate at the time]
and i dont know what it is i know its not right to judge a person but if there a kopite theres just somethin
about them, cant amagine what it would be like if everton didnt exist , not like its 'just a football team'
its alot more and when i have my kids ill make sure they know that, WERE A ****IN BEAST

Just awkward

I can only think that I'm just awkward and ornery. I'm from the Wirral, big Irish family - the majority are Liverpool fans with a few man u ones in there. I started supporting Everton when I was about 5 (1974ish) and have never looked back. My dad didn't support anyone - never liked football. It's a bit of a mystery really.

My first memory of getting really involved was the Aston villa league cup final and replays and the tears that followed. One of my first games included bob latchord's 30th goal and the £10,000 prize - less than a half a days pay for some top players now.
Once Everton are in the blood it cannot ever go way, no matter what happens.

My daughter has the advantage of an Everton dad and its there in her blood.

Family have supported the blues since the beginning, so born into it. It also helped that as a kid we also happened to be the best and the sh1te were in the second division. Just a glory hunter really.

Family thing for me an' all.
My Dad is an Evertonian as are all his brothers as well as their Dad (my Grandad).
Also my Mum and her Mum grew up in Everton and are Blues.

So as far back as I can remember I have ALWAYS been a Blue and it has never been in question.

Thinking back, as a kid I used to pass Goodison quite a lot on the bus to town along County Rd and got excited at the mere glimpse of Goodison. I hardly ever saw Anfield, never used to go near the place, so to me Everton always seemed closer, more "local" if you like.

For me:
I am 30, I started getting into football Mid 80's. My uncle supported Everton and kindly swayed me to do likewise.
Fisrt game was an away game at Man City, we lost 1-0. 89-90 or 90-91 season I think.

Grew up in Ormskirk and up until the age of about 5, I thought that Everton and RS were the only two teams in the world. I think I must have chose Everton because they were the underdogs.
