Why are the Welsh people so strange?

Go back to the 50’s and 60’s (think that era is correct) and you would get punished in school for speaking Welsh. There was a thing called a Welsh knot which was used for striking children with if they spoke Welsh. This almost killed the language I believe.
During my school years we were taught Welsh, but only as a second language unless you went to a Welsh school. The language is now having a resurgence amongst younger people who are taught to Be proud of their language and are encouraged to use it more. Personally I think this is a good thing, it’s the native tongue of Britain and it would be a huge shame if it were lost forever.
The Welsh "not" was in the 19th century, but my old man (Welsh speaker from the south) definitely did get the strap for speaking Welsh in school in the 1950s/60s. My generation don't speak Welsh but his grandkids (my nephews) ended up going to Welsh language school, so pretty amazing really. Lovely to hear them speak Welsh.

It was a strange era to grow for me in the 80’s, mum and dad both fluent Welsh, my grandmother only ever spoke to me in Welsh, I was only ever taught it as a second language so although I understand most of what’s being said I sometimes struggle in conversation for certain words. Weirdly, I have a brother 10 years younger than me who went to a school with more emphasis on the Welsh language and he is a fluent Welsh speaker, I plan to get there one day soon, I’m about 80% there now 😂

Did you teach your family to abuse Welsh speakers in their own country ?
Get this story straight - I was the one swore at - I was the one threatened - & your reply in welsh called me a S@it Pig - so just behave & stop stirring the pot OK....

I love Wales had many many lovely holidays there - that was a disturbing Incident that I relayed it was an unusual occurrence, but scary OK ...
