Who would ever leave us?

Are we at risk of losing any of our key players?

I wasn't suggesting that we sell more than other clubs.

You mentioned Rooney being sold for a bad price. I hate to bring it up again but wasn't it our leader who said he wouldn't sell Rooney for even 50m should a bid come in ? Then only weeks later Rooney is shown the door for just over half that fee.

We might not SELL much but its a well known fact that we simply give away our top top players. Bale went for how much ? Torres went for how much ? Its known around the league how desperate for cash our club is and that alerts teams to the fact that they don't have to pay over the odds to sign our top talent.

Barkley has incredible potential and is on the verge of lighting up the football world but he wouldn't go for 80m in 2 or 3 years time, why ? ......... because teams know they could grab him for 40 or 50 instead.

This worries me.
But it's just Rooney that we got a bad price for, because he was kicking up a fuss.

Lescott - 23 million - great deal
Arteta - 10 million (he seemed washed up) -good deal
Fellaini - 27 million - LOL
AJ - 10.5 million - great deal
Rodwell - 12 million - lololol

We get great deals, we just haven't had Madrid come for our players. You're comparing what Madrid buys, galaticos, to what we've sold? We've never had a player worth Madrid money, Rooney is the possible exception, but he forced his way out (and we did get a bad deal there).

Barkley needs to sign a contract asap or he will be sold, why the delay?
Our biggest assets is Barkley and Coleman. Baines not going anywhere now, Stones looks like a top prospect. Jags is staying.

Without Europe, everybody. Even Europa will help us keep mostly everybody.

I think Pienaar's time in the Prem is limited. Barkley and Baines are always at risk because of their superskills. Coleman, too. The rest probably can't move up much beyond us.

The only one I wouldn't be surprised if he left would be Mirallas. I'm sure he enjoys it here but reckon he would jump ship if a better offer came along as he has never seem completely "in love" with Everton.

Of our truly sellable assets (as in bigger clubs would really want them) I also think there is a chance Coleman could leave should we not get Champions League next season. I don't think he'd push for a move either way but for some reason I can think there's a chance he could go.

Of the others I think Barkley will give us at least another season save for some ridiculous mega offer from someone. Jags won't go, Baines won't, McCarthy won't.

Then of the rest of them I don't think any better teams would come in for them and so I don't think they'll be going anywhere as they'd have to take a step down.

I don't know if 'risk' is the right word - all clubs have players who move on. I think it is healthy sometimes, that dolt Moyes hung on to players well past their sell-by at times or just got stubborn thinking he'd never replace them. Sometimes moving players on at the right price can provide an opportunity. And yes, someone will go. In my waters I think it'll be Coleman and maybe someone, like West Ham, will bid silly money for Mirallas!

Every club runs the risk of losing players. Doesnt matter if its Barnet or Barcelona. And if we do lose some then so what? We just get new ones who may even be better.

People put far too much stock in players staying at a club these days. Its annoying if players move on but life goes on and there are loads of players out there.

That's very true, but it also depends on the manager. I don't think you guys have much to fear because even if you do lose Barkley, Coleman etc. then it's very likely that you'll get excellent players in their place, might even improve the team. Not many people expected Everton to get the likes of Lukaku or Del this season and yet that's what a good transfer window brings.

The flip side of the coin is losing your best players and not adequately replacing them, and I'd know a lot about that as an Arsenal fan. The gulf in quality between Fabregas and Cazorla, RVP and Giroud etc. is a lot to take. I can't see that happening to Everton.

I agree with the OP that risk is less simply because we've got Martinez but the fact is we have to trade and I'm not averse to it cos players get stale so quick these days.
Our only hope is doing an early days Wenger selling high and buying better for less money a massive ask but if anyone can Bobby's that man.

We are no longer making losses, so we don't HAVE to sell anyone. It means we are in a much better position than before, as we can set our values to reflect what we deem to be adequate compensation, if the buying club doesn't match the valuation then the player won't get sold.

Most clubs are in this situation at the moment; it's why Bony will probably remain at Swansea despite a lot of bigger clubs being interested in him. It will take about 20 million to buy Bony this Summer, nobody will pay it so he will remain at Swansea, imo.

Every player has a value, but people will obviously disagree on what that value is and what constitutes adequate compensation. I'd be willing to sell Barkley for 35 million for example, but I know some other people would disagree strongly.

It's better to be in a position where you can make profits and receive adequate compensation for your players, as opposed to being a club like Sunderland who have spent a FORTUNE on crap players that nobody is interested in buying. Sunderland effectively have a team full of Heitingas, and it has crushed them into oblivion.

Totally agree with you I don't think he would though.

Me neither mate, and i also think he is pretty happy here, Martinez is just making sure that no one feels complacent and that their place is guaranteed regardless of form or reputation

How often have we sold a top player that hasn't asked to leave?

Rooney? Oh..no, Lescott? Nah...Felli...nope. Arteta? Don't think so, but he was crap for us by that point anyway.

For all of Bill's faults, he doesn't just sell wildly. He doesn't buy when he does sell, that's the stick to beat him with, not that he sells players out from under managers or the players themselves.

Funny how Arteta was so desperate to go that he waited until the last hour before the window closed before putting in a transfer request?

You di know that if a olayer requests a transfer the club save money in not having to pay a loyalty bonus? Hence why aforesaid olayers were forced to hand in requests
