Who would ever leave us?

Are we at risk of losing any of our key players?

If Benteke hadn't of done his Achilles he'd of been off this summer. Darren Bent. He's been around now.

Even Suarez wanted out last summer.

It very much depends on the agent and the personality.

Maybe my original post was a little misleading. I guess I meant relative to last season, surely we are in a hugely more advantageous position than back then!
I think it'll all depend on whether we get 4th or not.

Get 4th, we're in a massively better position than last year. Get 5th and only marginally so.

Any club that has stand out players and that isn't challenging for the title will run the risk of the bigger boys coming calling.

I actually think Jags and Baines are happy playing for us and have accepted that they will finish their careers here.

Where we finish will be crucial to keeping Barkley and Miralles and being able to sign the likes of Lukaku

The kids amongst us are probably pinning their hopes on Barkley because he's a boyhood blue. Those of us who are a little bit older and remember the likes of Rooney, Jeffers, etc know that every player has a price and every player can have his head turned.

I think if Rooney came through now we would probably be able to keep for a few more years. He said at the time that he wanted regular Champions League football and Everton were relegation fodder at the time. If it was today, he would have a realistic chance of pushing the club to the next level.

As for Jeffers, we would probably have sold him to a lesser club eventually.

The media will always be pushing for us to lose our best players and staff

It will only change when we can compete financially with the other clubs. Then we'll be the beneficiary while another club gets pimped out for their best players

A little shocked at so many no's being chosen here.

Until we are taken over by some rich sheikh bloke with more money than sense it's highly likely that we will have to sell prize assets. That's just the way it is, and has been for ages and ages. Nothing has changed really.

The thing is to sell at insane prices, which in general we do pretty well at.

I don't think we are likely to lose any of our key, nonloan players next season so voted no. The players I'd put as key to our future are our back line inc Stones & Oviedo, McCarthy and Barkley.

I think we could well lose Pienaar over the summer due to him not having the best of seasons and being homesick.
If we need money we might sell Mirallas especially if a good world cup inflates his value and if Lukaku goes elsewhere (think Lukaku's happiness here has quite a bit to do with being very friendly with Mirallas and Oviedo, he too has mentioned homesickness)

However I no longer consider Pienaar and Mirallas key - useful yes and would prefer to keep them, but believe martinez could find decent replacements if needed.

If we don't progress much next season though I think Coleman and Barkley in particular could have offers we'd find hard to turn down.

Today Carragher was on about how he thinks Barkley should give us another 2-3 years whilst 5 minutes later he was on about how Gerrard had stayed loyal and deserved credit/PL title for it. Its one or the other for me.

Now apart from our loans Lukaku and Del-boy who we have very little control over (I'm excluding Barry cos I ultimately believe he's odds on to stay), I honestly can't think of a single player that would be tempted to leave.

It's not a question of who would want to leave but of who Bill would want to sell.

But if Rooney had of stayed on for 1 more season he WOULD have had CL footy with us.

And we did sell Jeffers to a lesser club.

How often have we sold a top player that hasn't asked to leave?

Rooney? Oh..no, Lescott? Nah...Felli...nope. Arteta? Don't think so, but he was crap for us by that point anyway.

For all of Bill's faults, he doesn't just sell wildly. He doesn't buy when he does sell, that's the stick to beat him with, not that he sells players out from under managers or the players themselves.

not for a few years 2-3, by bthen if we arent regularly top 4 contenders or more then i can see the likes of a few players heads getting turned as we will have stagnated, much like baines was tempted by united etc

Until then though i think the players will be on board with what bobbies building

the new TV money makes me think short term at least mate we have a bit of security against bidders, got more wiggle room for improved contracts, not having to sell to balance the books for a whilst, at least until the inevitable happens and the wages consume the extra funds from telly

Obviously though like any team in britaiun sides for maybe city and chelsea we won't be able to fend off ridiculous bids on anyone from either those two or the likes of barca or madrid or bayern/psg etc

We are a selling club and its been this way for as long as i can remember. Every 2 seasons on average, we sell a name for a fortune.

The sad part is that it won't stop either. The only reason we don't really mention this anymore is because our on the field stuff is working wonders and is distracting us away from talking about the gloom. I mean its how it should be, we have been fantastic this season and should only be really talking about the football being played but make no mistake lads, we ARE still a selling club.

The argument could be made every club is a selling club to a certain stand point but our club is a selling club on a different scale.
