If there are any young gems with potential, then I wouldn't mind (i.e. I'm thnking of when Moyes brought Jagielka from a relegated team). I'd be in no hurry to pick any of them up. Even McManaman who looked great for 1/4 of a season. Whelan would ask silly money just now.

Indeed and he's played in the Premier league already and done fairly well so that'll add to the price of a player we shouldn't really be looking at

The Mirror reckon we have a clause, but they make a lot of things up. It would seem unlikely. According to Wiki we released him at 16 and he joined Wigan on a free. Even if we did have a clause, which would be exceptional for a trainee, it would probably only be about 10%.

Reckon he will go for Figueroa on a free. At end of interview he said signing players that will improve the team, and that doesnt mean going back to his old club. So maybe he has some surprises in mind.
