WHO IS THE KEY?

Why? if you look at the CB's, the most worrying one is distin. He panics when Tim/Joel dish it out to him then either hoofs it or gives it back to the goalie

Because the way we want to play is crucial to how that particular group get to grips with the distribution side of their game and as great they are at defending, Jags n Distin are not great ball players.

I think they both struggle. Jags for England the other night was just so dodgy with the ball, gave it away a few times.

Great as he is at defending, he worries me in possesion. Same with Distin.

That was Wigans main issue. They could not get that key area right. Alcaraz made of paper, meant holes galore, and trying to play football with Caldwell and the other tit, is as good as suicide.

No wonder we are linked with loads of defenders. We get that right, then we easily have the "ball" players in midfield for it to work.

I honestly see us in 12 months time, having 2 brand new centre back starters.

I think it would be a bad move to get rid of jags, Distin is nearly retiring anyway. But we can't lose Jags defensive capabilities no chance.

I agree, but if his distribution does not improve, I can see him replaced.

I think a good balance would be a ball player(why did JH turn so shoite he would be perfect if he could stay on form) and Jags, someone alongside him who can take the ball, while Jags is the steel.

To be honest, at this level. You need both to be able to do the job well.

In an ideal world, not many teams have 2 ball playing CB's though. It depends on what the cost is, losing jags and what he brings could be damaging, I'd settle for 1 ball player(maybe Stones will turn into that man) and a great defender.

It's the attacking unit overall really. We'll ship more goals than usual this season simply due to the way we'll play, so it's up to the likes of Mirallas, Jelavic, Barkley etc. to be consistent.

All that depends on how persistant Robby is, about playing his way regardless.

If in doubt ask The La's

Jelavic,if he can get his game up and running, then I think we'll be ok .I agree with thoughts on KM,and I think more than anyone that he will enjoy playing for Martinez.

He seems a clever man and i'd hope he can see what needs addressing before I do. Our defensive distribution is a concern though, i guess we shall see. A CB as good as Jags who can play togger is going to be very expensive. Maybe have to hope they can settle down and not be so nervous on the ball and handle it like it's a hot brick.
