Who is John Souttar?

Strange. He doesn't play like a typical centre-half. He turns to face when receiving possession.

Agree with Jock, he's used as the first line of distribution and looks like he knows how to use the ball intelligently.

Might be something to this rumour as that vid indicates he's a Martinez type of player.

First thing I thought when I saw the rumour last night. Definitely what you'd describe as a ball playing centre half.

The original article suggested perhaps a buy and loan back arrangement.

You'd think this would be the best deal all round really.

Find myself really hoping this comes off now. 10 years down the line, we could well have the captains of England and Scotland in Souttar and Stones as our centre back partnership.

is he going to be another kennedy, bought from the scottish league and just stagnate in our u-21's?

Is Kennedy stagnating? He's just gone 19 and by all accounts last year was doing well? Sadly on the sole opportunity I had to see him against Spurs, he got injured..

I dunno about Souttar, at that age surely its nigh on impossible to tell how good/bad/indifferent he's going to be? He won't be finished growing even. That said, given his performances at 16, if he kicks on as he should, £1,000,000 would be a steal, in the end.

I'd be loathe to say Kennedy was stagnating either. By all accounts he's one of the key players in a very good U21's side.

Looks promising but don't all players on you tube!

As said looks a Martinez type. Think we may just hold an advantage over your Chelsea's etc with level headed players like this. Join the team just behind the biggest boys And play games or get lost in the big boys reserves and never see any first team action?? For Any sensible non money grabbing player the choice is easy!

RM reputation of sexy football and blooding youth should also help in such transfers.

Like I mentioned earlier, he comes across as the sensible sort. Would have been all to easy for him to jump at the Sunderland move and make some big money but decided to turn it down to 1) keep playing first team football and 2) see how the situation at Sunderland develops before committing to a long term deal.

There's a gap in that defense too isn't there? Whilst Distin is a phenom he must be in the final throes of his career. Jags is over 30 as well. Alcaraz is also the wrong side of 30, whilst Heitinga will surely be on his way before long. So we could need an entire new defense over the next few years.

You sense Stones is next off the rank but having another youngster to play alongside him would be great.

True, and i also think we need to bring in at least one ball playing centre half. Jags and distin are great defenders but never look comfortable on the ball, in the system we play the CB's see alot of the ball.

i dont think hes any closer to the 1st team squad, we shouldve loaned him back to kilmarnock.

Wouldn't send him back to Killie, they're honking, Since their manager left they've got an awful lot more...agricultural in their play.

Give him to Motherwell for a wee run about...

It's quite telling that his more experienced defensive teammates rely on him to take possession when under pressure.

Christ sake can you not find a better video? most defenders will look good heading a ball away. Can you not find a video where he intercepts a 1-2 then starts a move?
