EVERTON boss Roberto Martinez is ready to swoop for Dundee United’s teenage centre-half John Souttar in a £1million deal.Martinez sent top spy Kevin Reeves to watch the 17-year-old against Celtic at the weekend as he paves the way for a bid.Souttar has played only a handful of matches for United but the Scotland Under-19 kid is highly
rated with Sunderland already failing in a £600,000 bid to land the player.

Who is John Souttar? He is a 17 year old he plays in defence for Dundee United. Apparently Kevin Reeves went to watch him against Celcetic at the weekend. He's only played a few games and Sunderland failed recently with a £600k bid.

Hope this helps :)

Dundee United centre-half.

Under Levein, Dundee United tore up their youth system and started it again, and Souttar and Gauld are two of the first fruits of that. I've seen more of the striker, Gauld, but Souttar appears to be highly rated as well. Played his way out of defence in a Scottish cup semi-final against Celtic with a backheel, about 5 games into his career, at 16. Proves nothing in itself, but it was remarkable to watch.

And aye, Sunderland were sniffing around as well.

Sunderland didn't "fail with a bid", the bid was accepted. John went down to Sunderland and spent a few days at the club before deciding to wait until the end of the season to see how things panned out. He's got a sensible head on his shoulders for such a young kid.

Was probably man of the match on Saturday at Celtic in a 1-1 draw.

About a month ago the Spanish press said R. Madrid were looking at Gauld

Souttar wasn't mentioned.

It's quite telling that his more experienced defensive teammates rely on him to take possession when under pressure.

Strange. He doesn't play like a typical centre-half. He turns to face when receiving possession.

Agree with Jock, he's used as the first line of distribution and looks like he knows how to use the ball intelligently.

Might be something to this rumour as that vid indicates he's a Martinez type of player.

Not that expensive either. You'd imagine if he was English (ala Dier) he'd be 3/4 times as much.
