I agree with you that being blue does make fans think he should be harder working player but just want to add to why this might be as every time barkley is running with the ball shrugging off players like pinballs commenters alway bang on 'and such a physical presence too'

He does look more energetic with ball than without it is almost as if he was instructed too do so much like Messi was under pep. His height and appreance deceives fans and pundits that he is a powerhouse. He probably is just need more games to help his mentally, consistent position and consistent teammates which he did not very much have last season. His mentality seriously seems to be his weakness

I have no problem with him not playing like Fellaini, as long as he's creating chances for himself or others. The problem comes when there is sweet FA in terms of end product in the attacking third, AND he's not getting stuck in.

Bobby needs to simplify things for him until he gets his natural confidence back. He's not David Silva, he's Ross Barkley. Put him in a position that plays to his strengths, and tell him to go play like he's 13 again.

I remember seeing a goal from him around that age, maybe a bit older...put one in the top corner from about 25 yards, I think. That was the first I'd heard of him. Might've been on here...too long ago to remember.

The surprise would be if Barkley decided to get stuck into a few tackles and looked like he was bothered.

And actually chased back when he's lost the ball instead of just standing there throwing his arms up in the air.

I think it was a "learning" year for him. He got a lot of grief last year for giving the ball away cheaply and this year he's gone too far the opposite direction. Hopefully next year he will hit the sweet spot and when he does we will all see why he was so hyped. For me he's still the brightest young talent England have because he's one of the few that put him in a midfield 3 against anyone and he could hold his own.

They where really good in the first half of the season but luck just wasn't with them. Once they started getting that little bit of luck their results improved massively.
