The Cure wouldn't be half the band they are without Simon Gallup, especially the early albums.

This is my pick too.

Can't have The Cure's hypnotic sound on songs like A Forest without the metronome of his bass line.

He's so close to being my favourite member of The Cure, unfortunately he has good old Bobby Smith to contend with.

Louis Johnson, Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins & Ronald LaPread - Funk / Disco was a golden age of bass playing.
Flea - So good that RHCP can get away with a revolving cast of guitarists and a singer as poor as Anthony Kiedis
John Entwistle - My favourite traditional 'Classic Rock' bass player - I was always more into The Who than Led Zep.
Pino Palladino - A lot of people have never heard of him but they'll likely have multiple albums/playlists featuring him.
Les Claypool - File along Geddy Lee. It's just that I've listened to more Primus than Rush over the years.
Charles Mingus - Because I've not seen him mentioned
