If original Ronaldo had proper knees I think he would be up there. I'm biased as he is my favourite non-Everton player ever but he was absolutely unbelievable. Speed, skill, strength, finishing. He had it all. The fact he came back from those 2 knee injuries and won a World Cup as top goalscorer as well as the Ballon d'Or is incredible. He's still the youngest ever winner of FIFA Player of the Year and the Ballon d'Or too.

Damn those knees.

That just shows our Euro-centrism though. As I mentioned before, Messi's Argentina have reached 3 Copa America finals, as well as a World Cup final, but we don't hear anything of the Copa America so it gets discounted compared to the Euros, and in that tournament they drew with the might of Iceland, Austria, and Hungary, being hugely fortunate to make it out of their group in 3rd place, before an extra time win over Croatia, requiring penalties to beat Poland and then beating the might of Wales in the semis. The only proper team they faced was in the final, and Ronaldo was subbed off in the 25th minute with injury. Far and away the best player in that tournament was Griezmann.
