Carroll is not shyte but nowhere near world class
18m is WAY too much for him for the return he'll bring.

Carrol would have done well in the 4-5-1 formation I think, but I couldn't see him doing to well with Martinez's 3-4-3

That being said, you never know

I think if he's healthy and you're prepared to make the rest of the team his supply line, he can be a useful player

Not a lot of teams want to do that though

Arteta was ex-Barca.

Just pointing out that we've had previous and a Moyes signing to boot.

People on here acting like Martinez is some sort of miracle worker for signing some kid thats played 2 top-flight games.

We got Arteta off Real Sociedad though tbf.

Fair point....although Drenthe was ex Real Madrid and signed by Moyes and that didn't exactly work out....

he cost 35m for the reds and played one season for them thus being 18m a season

i do genuinely think Carroll has had a rough ride, nice fella that should never have left the barcodes when he did, especially not to the ****e. knocked his confidence off kilter. he might come good again with west ham but 18mil? good luck to him.

He didn't seem all that nice to me when he was taunting the Gwladys street couple of seasons back, prick.

To be fair, though, I consider myself a nice guy but if I scored at the Kop (with people in it, like) they'd be getting all sorts.

The Barca kid represents so much more than an addition to the squad.

The Spanish correspondent on talksport mentioned xavi, laudrup, Messi (admittedly with some caveats) as comparisons - it's a declaration of daring to dream again.

Carroll isn't a bad player but he's never going to be mentioned in such exalted company this club needs adventure and excitement again to regain it's soul.

The boy from barca is más que un futbolista it has to be Deulofeu.

Unless you're a woman he beats up or a man in a bar he glasses, like.

a nice guy who is also a beer monster and injury prone. If he gets his head together he could do well as he is the only english striker with the kind of attributes he has. But I think it's more likely he will just be another Collymore (who is probably the best all round striker this country has produced in the last 30 years..if he had fulfilled his potential)

At worst Carroll is still a decent Prem level Plan B forward.
At best he could be simply unplayable.

18m is still steep but as Hammers adapted their game to suit him I would say why not.

It is ludicrous to compare a pair of players so different in style.
