When is it alright to call Everton 'us'

I've always referred to my team in the first person plural form with pronouns and possessives, 'We, us, our, ours'. It's always seemed natural. I'm originally local (wool but local), but don't think it matters.

Always we, with regards to your own club - be it player, staff or fan. Why does it make you cringe though? Everyone I have ever known has always referred to their team as we.

The use of 'us' would be as a result of a tonking, as you put. IE - "They did batter us, but 'we' didn't help ourselves".

nailed it there Pablo

Of course it's WE

The Kiwi's have it right in the way that they see it...The All Blacks, 15 on the field, 4million on the bench.

The same with us only the numbers are different

To miss quote De Gaulle... Le Team, c'est moi

This, pretty much. Who actually thinks of something like this

Haven't came across a single person who hasn't referred to the club they support as "we".
