50k is not a small capacity though.
It's shocking if the club have that in mind. It would send a signal out that they weren't confident we could become a club capable of exploiting any onfield successes we might get in the future and hauling ourselves up to our traditional peers like Liverpool, United, Arsenal, Spurs.

Nah it wouldn't. The only signal it would send out is that we have loads of plastic seats.

Focus on ourselves, not other clubs. All that will matter is what happens on the pitch. If its 50K but a brilliant stadium it really wont matter. We will never catch up with Liverpool and Man Utd in terms of global popularity etc, to be honest I don't really want to either. Lets get our own house in order first.

City got a free stadium they are now looking to expand, Chelsea have a similar problem to us. I'm not saying 60k equals league titles, what I'm saying is it shows where the board see us being, and how much we should be looking to compete. 50k would be very underwhelming for a club our size

City's stadium wasn't free. They handed over Maine Rd, paid for the conversion to a football stadium and still pay £4M a year rent. A good deal, but nothing like the one West Ham enjoy and certainly not free.
On a side note, someone mentioned atmosphere. Because The Etihad was originally designed as an athletics stadium, the roof was designed so noise is deflected out of the ground. This is so athletes can hear the starter pistol, but doesn't help the atmosphere for football. When the South stand was extended they tried to rectify it, at least in that part of the ground.
Everton would be daft to go for anything under 60k capacity imo. All the other big clubs will have bigger capacity. Limiting yours would be very short sighted.

Juventus built a stadium with a 41k capacity, have won the league about 7 years in a row and got to the last CL final. A well run club is more important in success/ambition than a big stadium.

We have to think of the build costs, the cost per seat and what we can realistically charge.

Most money comes from TV nowadays. The business case for over 50k is really shaky.

What I do hope is that the stadium is designed so non-matchday income is maximised.
Isn't the TV deal different in Italy, not totally sure but think you can watch every Juventus game live hence the smaller capacity, having tried to watch Everton's summer friendly streams I don't think it will work the same

You'll get a lot of push now from the club on forums like this to get momentum behind a small capacity. It's started already.

Absolutely.

Expect a lot of new posters on this forum to tell us that we're not a big enough club to fill a big stadium and that we need an "intimate" ground because we're the People's Club etc.

If it comes down to BMD or bust then I'd take BMD at today's GP capacity but that doesn't mean I wouldn't hope and expect for more.

I don't want the club to over-extend themselves but I do want a stadium that we can be proud of and that visiting teams and fans admire, but hate to play at. A waterfront location gives us a unique selling point.

I do think that there is a campaign underway to prepare us to accept a more modest capacity. I want the best stadium and the biggest capacity but am somewhat resigned to coming around on size provided the design has something of a wow factor and the stadium is tight and intimidating.

Iptv is the way to go
90 Euro a year for more stations than I can ever use
Every British , European American sports station and all Bein sports stations.
Liveonsat tells you where and when

I think in our current position we would definitely struggle to hit 60k, but that’s where we need to make sure the people at the club are earning there money and selling and promoting the club every way possible. Judging by the last 10/15 years there is no one currently at the club who is qualified to do it. Hopefully the rumours of Elstone, Kenwright, Walsh etc leaving is the catalyst to get people in who can.

We outstripped those clubs historically in terms of stadium development. To believe the wheel cant turn again is ahistorical.

50K is a signal that the Everton are moving to the docks to be the anchor to a bigger development down there rather than as a move that underlines the club's ambition.

I don't get this line. Away days are apparently the loudest and best atmosphere, we all stand for 90mins on away days too...yet it's embarrassingly quiet.

Standing up won't suddenly make an atmosphere happen. It takes the fans to actually make some noise, we could do it seated but all our fans want to do is moan and shout TEEEEEEEERNNNNNNNN at the youngest player on the pitch that game.

What safe standing does is bring like minded people together, invariably the people who want to stand will all want to sing anyway.

As it is now both home and away you have little pockets of people all over the stand and it’s tough to get things going at times.

Surely with B you would have to lower prices to fill the extra seats anyway?

I suppose revenue from food and merch etc could come into it. I don't think we are a destination club for tourists, nor do I think we ever will be. Do City and Chelsea attract tourists? Genuine question, I have no idea.

The City game this year I was in hospitality, genuinely there was only 2 mancs around us, the rest were all football tourists.

The 2 mancs got us lashed as well ha.

They built 41k because that’s all thy can fill, they don’t even fill it that often tbh.
