What would be your dream job ?

Hard to say, really. I like the idea of bringing life back to paintings that the owners may have thought were destroyed and or lost for good. It's just something I find really interesting, and I could watch the bloke in the video below all day long.

I'm like 3/4's of way through that vid and I'm a bit surprised the guy in it seems so relatively young...that seems like an awful lot of acquired knowledge and experience to perfect. I'm sure all the watch nerds can appreciate. It feels like if you f up one of the multiple aspects it'd quickly turn in to a horror show.

Nah, easy this art restoration business. Nothing a chemical wash and a 2B pencil can't fix.

Seriously, that kind of work on a painting of any value, I think I would choose a less stressful vocation. Like defusing bombs for instance.

I could just imagine all the paint sticking to the cling film wrap on step 1 of what he was doing. 🫣

If the painting is essentially scrap and the client has just said give it a go and no biggy if it doesn't work, then possibly it could be a wonderful creative experience. Don't think many people pay up for experiments though, if they want something restored they'll expect a result.

Exactly...all the steps he went through prior to repainting...I can image 1,000 potential issues. I can also image me at the end of any of those steps:

I'm at that point of change in.my working life. I'm leaving my high pressure job of nearly 30 years next month. Quite daunting actually as I've not quite reached retirement age but recognise the need to step back to keep my health and reduce the physical toll on myself.
As of now , I'm looking at P/T hassle/stress free work, so ideally, a fella in the hut giving out golf clubs on a pitch and putt course, with a radio , cryptic crossword and a decent book, two days a week would be ideal , btw no weekends please !.

Right now it would be anaesthesetist to D. Trump. Oops sorry, my bad, out by a decimal point in terms of the dose.

Seriously though... paid audio system assessor and designer. Or cellist (if somebody could inject me with the talent to play) for an orchestra or folk rock band.

Careers advice for everyone at my school was accountant or army.
Better advice than at my school - which was a high/grammar school until it was changed to a comp half way through my time there. The new headmaster had it in his head that we should all aim at Ford apprenticeships even though the classes he was addressing were all grammar school students mostly aiming for university or polytechnic. To achieve this he stopped me doing Latin classes and made me do woodwork as I "needed a craft subject". Dolt!
