What realistic expectations can we have for next season?

Well of course, the aim has to be to win every game. I suppose what it is I'm really asking is where do you see us ending up?

We just don't have the squad to sustain a league challenge, though I suppose that's why the summer's so crucial

No idea. I really hate this attitude of "Finishing 4th/5th/6th would be great" No, it wouldn't. It would be crap.
If at the end of ANY season, we don't have a trophy. Then that is an unsuccessful season.

Of course but the old adage of "it's a marathon not a sprint" comes into play here, you have to look at the long term and the next step for us surely has to be the Champions League? With our financial situation especially. It would make a monumental difference for us if we could have two back to back seasons in the Champions League.

Did Spurs the world of good, didn't it !!!

I dont care about the financial rewards, our board would waste it. What they cant waste, is a cup win, all cup wins go down in history as success, and can never be changed.

Finishing 4th.....is erm well finishing 4th !

Can't help but feel you're taking a very short term view. The most successful clubs are undoubtedly those in the Champions League, more money allows you to build a bigger squad and attract a higher calibre of players. We'd all love a cup win but if you offered me an FA Cup win this season vs 2 seasons in the CL back to back I'd take the latter in a heartbeat.

It's very possible that we will progress as a team ourselves and be better than we are this year but have the teams around us progress even further, thus having us finish in a lower position. Hopefully this won't be the case.

I am feeling nicely optimistic about next season to be honest.

howard, baines, coleman, jags, barkley, mccarthy should be the only guaranteed starters next season imo...so theres 5 places up for grabs/new players needed

Put all your energy into winning a cup and go down, not saying that would happen to us of course but the league has to be a priority for me. Getting Champions League would take us up another level.

Ok then we won't "do a Wigan" next season, and it will be extremely difficult for us to qualify for the CL next season given our transfer budget compared to our rivals budgets.

Those that prefer a CL place, are those that dont go the game.

The one that want us on TV more.

I go the game to see my team win trophies. I want to take my son to Wemberley, to see our team win a trophy.

Just watch the reaction video, when we beat United in the semi's, I remember bieng in tears of joy in 1995 too.

The quintuple. Charity Shield to kick it off then whatever European trophy we qualify for to top the season off with Bobby just smiling smugly to himself thinking "We're boss" as people across the land begin to call this team the untouchables.

What does realistic mean again?
