Van Dijk makes an awful amount of mistakes, the fact he play's in the Spl he tends to get away with it, he is comfortable on the ball so definitely a Martinez type player.
 
Goalkeeper for me, every successful team has had a good keeper, were would Utd and Spurs be this year without Lloris and De Gea, both have giving up a lot more chances than us, if we had either we would be nearing 30 points easily.
 
Problem is it can be difficult getting good signings done in January...so although we're in dire need of a new Keeper & centre back we might need to wait till the summer...
One of the main things we're lacking this season is pace....we badly need a new winger (pienaar is finished, mcgeady was a terrible terrible signing, and atsu has made no impact so far)...
It I could make one loan signing right now, I'd ask Man Utd about Januzaj....we're no longer a threat to them for top 4, and we would give Januzaj the games they can't right now (win win for both clubs)...

Centre back - Think about it. The more centre backs we have; the less chance we have of playing Alcaraz or Distin.

Although it says in the @Azza link he's staying at Celtic, there's no way they'd let an offer go by for van Dijk. The United link for £10M is just Celtic with a 'come and get him for less than that' to clubs like us and Sunderland who would realistically be his next destination.
 
Centre Half in January but we have quite a few areas where we need to strengthen.

In goal: Robles isn't good enough as back up and Howard needs someone to take his place as Number 1 either straight away or if heis poor form continues.

Centre Back: We need a first choice replacement centre half. Distin is finished and Alcaraz isn't good enough to be the first choice replacement for Stones and Jagielka.

Wing: Pienaar isn't looking like he is going to come back strong and McGeady isn't a starter. We need the influence of someone like Deulofeu.

We should be ok for centre midfield if our injuries sort themselves out. Barry needs to be instantly demoted to squad player and should only play if needed in desperate circumstances. He can do a job coming off the bench but he's finished as a member of the first 11. I hope Martinez realises that from now on. Same goes for Osman.

Eto'o should only come on off the bench and play up front.

I'd say Jags is a better passer than Terry, in my opinion.

If we don't have the players to play tika tika, should we not play to the players strengths we have?
 
I think it's hard to determine whether there's more priority in a winger or a central defender.

Distin has been poor all season, Stones has been out injured for most of it and Alcarez looks OK but doesn't seem to be able to keep a clean sheet on the bounce. So we definitely need one cover there.

In the Winger position, last year Gerard was superb - so fast and quick, going past defenders and giving us a real option from the bench. This year though, Atsu hasn't given us that and in games we're losing - the only real option we have is Eto. I really believe we need a winger prompt.
 
Indeed, they are basically dictating the price of 10mil.

Would be a good signing and could even add players there to lower the fee.

If it wasn't for Howard being injured I'd say we need a younger version of Pienaar. Not necessarily an out and out winger, but a wide man who can take the ball from defence, keep hold of it, move it on and is capable of running at players too.

Howard being out for up to 5 or 6 weeks changes things though so a keeper is probably our short-term priority.
