If it wasn't for Howard being injured I'd say we need a younger version of Pienaar. Not necessarily an out and out winger, but a wide man who can take the ball from defence, keep hold of it, move it on and is capable of running at players too.

Howard being out for up to 5 or 6 weeks changes things though so a keeper is probably our short-term priority.

if we go to the market with "short-term" mentality we'll get s*** goalkeeper and Joel stays nro. 1.

move should be drastic. but im fearing it wont be...

We just aren't going to sign a central defender chaps. Brace yourself for that.
If we don't sign one this window then I'd like to see Barry feature at CB more often, at least until the end of the season. Right now I'd say he's a better option than Distin and Alcaraz in the position and it'd allow Besic/Barkley to play alongside McCarthy in CM which would give our midfield a bit more pace and movement

I thought he played his best game of the season when he played there.

I'm thinking a lot of you guys have a very short memory when it comes to Deulofeu...

He had a couple of awesome games, particular Stoke at Goodison, but he was nowhere near the finished article and would definitely not single handedly save our season.

Goals aren't the problem, we've only scored two less than last season. We need a solid top six premiership keeper which Howard isn't anymore and unfortunately I don't think Joel ever will be and we need a future left sided CB to pair with Stones or to hope that Stones and Jags form a proper partnership and stay fit.

I'd say Jags is a better passer than Terry, in my opinion.

If we don't have the players to play tika tika, should we not play to the players strengths we have?
Terry is deceptively a good passer. Jags isn't as bad as Distin but Terry is better and as a pair the Chelsea pair are far better.

No but he would give us balance and he would be one for the future. Besides he couldn't save our season anyway as he's cup tied for Europa and realistically winning that or the FA Cup is the only thing we have to play for.

Can we get a position open at Specsavers? That way someone who shall remain unnamed (No not Voldermort!) can get some glasses and begin to see that 'titting about at the back' aint working.

People saying goals arnt the problem are looking at those stats which largely point to us netting a few earlier on in the season. We have been awful these last few games and this will not change until that Spanish Kernt gets Barkley off the wing and Naismith and eto'o on the bench for proper wingers

RM also as good as said there was no way we'd buy McGeady until the summer and then he appeared out of nowhere paraded before the game! I don't really pay attention to any of Roberto's spin to the media.

That must save you an awful lot of aggravation ignoring his pre-match and post match interviews not to mention his progress reports to the media.

  1. Winger - Other than Mirallas the rest are crap. Would also make it a priority to get Kev signed up to a longer deal
  1. Keeper - A solid keeper gives the defence more confidence and can really help the way you play. If we get a keeper who is good at distributing it will lead to a lot more chances on the counter.
  2. CB - We need another young lad there, maybe start giving Browning a few more minutes to get more of a picture of what he is like. Any new centre backs need to be comfortable on the ball.
  3. CM - I don't really think we are in drastic need for a player there, McCarthy, Barry, Besic, Osman, Barkley and Gibson (when he isn't injured) can all do a job there. Also the same as the above with Browning but for Ledson. Maybe get rid of Gibson and get another young lad in with room to grow who has an eye for a pass and can unlock defences with through balls.
  4. No10 - We don't need one, we have a perfectly good one in Barkley, we just need to play him there (this would be solved by signing a winger). Also got Naismith, Eto'o and Osman who can do a job there.
great post adam ...totally agree with all of this .....goalie , good winger and centre back ...plus we must be due some luck from referees soon...Vorm could be answer or marshall for keeper ...browning certainly worth a look at present until we can sign somebody ..winger - badly needed - not sure of options but plenty out there ...also need to get some of the deadweight of our wage bill and maybe free up some loan money - pienaar and mcgeady the 2 that are most obvious - 3- 0 win tomorrow and all will be great again !!!
