What or who do we actually need to sign?

We can't afford to buy young quality players (ala Henderson, Downing, Jones) and then sell them on without investment. We can only hope that we produce younger players who can be sold on. But the only way we can get quality players in is by buying them old and them making an immediate impact on the team.

They bring in finances with gate attendance, league position and jersey sales I reckon, which is better than nothing I suppose?

In what world is A. Downing young and B. Him and badly henderson quality? I do agree that we don't have the financial constraints to bring in younger talent though, we need older quality to help get us there IMO, but it'll be tough

My mistake on Downing being young. Guess I was more or less talking established players with a large price tag.

And both of those signings were seen as pretty good signings, albeit overpriced, and (thankfully) they have underperformed this year. Hoping that continues on in the future.

I am basing it off of what AB has said. Even watching the highlights of Reserve matches you can see him getting beat often and giving up on the ball on the defensive side of things. Also basing it off of DM and Stubb's comments from earlier this year.

Fair enough

But I would say his Stamina and Defence qualitys can not be any worse the Guaye, Osman or Mcfadden

Whilst I agree with TxB in what hes saying, it would be asking a bit much to base a team around an 18 Year Old Ross Barkley.

Whilst buying 3 30+ is not great, it does allow us to plan on basing a team around a 21 Year Old Ross Barkley, but that would only work if he was given as much playing time as possible.

Its Everton, the likelyhood of us even getting these 3 players mentioned is remote, we dont do transfers well, despite the reliable info ive been told, as I say, the Everton way isnt always clear cut.

I still maintain the best business we can do in the next window is to retain most of the squad we have now, for me, if we start the Season with Fellaini, Baines, Heitinga, Jelavic and Pienaar, we will go far.

Haha good shout. Gueye and McFadden have no stamina whatsoever.

Why Moyes choose to use them as the subs instead of Barkley is beside me...... No clue on his line of thought.

For the record, I have no problem using Barkley as a frequent sub//infrequent starter at this point in time. I do believe he should be getting game time on a pretty consistent basis, I just don't think he is the answer to our problems at this point in time. Next year or two years down the road he could be the bee's knees and I really hope he is.

Dempsey is hardly going to bring excellent defensive qualities to the table either, the position doesn't require it, and he's about as close to a second striker as you can get nowadays. I think there's a misconception that Barkley is some sort of box to box midfielder, probably because he's six foot plus and looks the part, but his playing style is very different. He's an out and out playmaker, someone who operates in behind a striker, in a three man central midfielder or on either flank. Basically, play him high up the pitch, get him on the ball and let him express himself.

I'm not one to go over the top with youngsters but Barkley's not an ordinary 18 year old. He shouldn't even be compared to Rodwell, let alone young players on the fringes like Gueye and Vellios.

In no ways am I saying Barkley is an ordinary 18 year old, nor am I trying to compare him to our fringe players. That is not my intent at all. He is a top prospect with loads of potential, and I just think DM is trying to get as much potential out of him (meaning honing the skill sets he already has and improving is sub-par ones) before thrusting him into the limelight.

We don't have a quality role model for him in that number 10 position, so bringing in someone like Dempsey could help him develop even further into an even better player. Timmy is closest we have, but his style seems to be different from Barkleys.

Id love to bring in donovan dempsey and pienaar but i dont know if its realistic for us to do given there age.

Either way pienaar is a must! We do have barkley who will save us a fortune and dempsey would be perfect to plug the gap in the acm role whilst barkley's progressing. He can also play off the right..

There's also lewis holtby who is a very good player 10yrs younger and entering the last year of his contract.

Lets just hope we have some cash so these are actual problems we need to think about as apposed to dream about!

I agree, and he's pretty much done that this season, Ross probably has around 30 games under his belt in all competitions, alot of them as an orthodox midfielder, so the coaching staff are obviously looking at the areas he needs to improve on. For me, there's only so much he can learn at that level now. He was playing for the under 18s at 14 and he's so comfortable at reserve level it's almost unfair on opposition players. I just can't see it lasting, Moyes obviously had a plan for him this season, but I think he'll be a regular in no time.

I for one am looking forward to the day he breaks through and sets the team alight. Hoping he comes to fruitition after all the hype surrounding him, he does seem to be quite the player. Dunno if you saw the highlights, but the goal he scored in reserves was class. Great 1-2 with Baxter and a quality finish from just outside the box.

I also trust that DM will bring in him into the first team at the right time, when he has honed all of his skills, and I agree that he is getting there. Having a role model for him wouldn't hurt though, but could cut down on his play time.

Holtby's mother is German. Lewis, like his father is a fan of Everton F.C. and has said it would be a dream come true to play for them.

Lewis said: "My father was born in England and was a Everton fan since the age of five. He immediately infected me with the Everton virus! Since then I have been a Everton fan and have always followed their games."[14]

The lad has 1 year left on his deal. Seems like he would be a good adition to the squad and seems like he would be willing to come.
