What or who do we actually need to sign?

If the RS go in for him they can offer european football and better wages

So in short we would have no chance

But can they offer him a starting position? With Stevie Me, Adam, Henderson, Downing, Spearing, Lucas all wanting starting roles, he would seem a bit of a fringe player there.

We can at least offer a consistent starting role, plus our contingent of Americans wouldn't hurt our chances at all.

Signing three players in and around 30 wouldn't be good business.

I've been thinking this. As undoubtedly good as Pienaar, Donovan and Dempsey are, it doesn't make sense for us as a club.

I'd take any one of them though, especially Pienaar.

We can't afford to buy young quality players (ala Henderson, Downing, Jones) and then sell them on without investment. We can only hope that we produce younger players who can be sold on. But the only way we can get quality players in is by buying them old and them making an immediate impact on the team.

They bring in finances with gate attendance, league position and jersey sales I reckon, which is better than nothing I suppose?

Henderson,Downing,Spearing,Lucas are all diffrent types of player mainly Def Mids

Dempsey would be bought as an Attacking option to play along side rat man or behind the strikers IMO

Could see the yanks pushing something like this through for them as it would do them no harm in getting the RS more press in America

Point taken on the different positions, but that still leaves Stevie Me and Charlie Adam in the attacking role that Dempsey would be competing with. You could also throw Bellamy, Kuyt and Maxi in contention for that spot as well. But he ceratinly would be used as off the attacking forward I would presume, just showing that they have a pretty established midfield.

Very good point on the American Liverpool market. Could be more for PR for Liverpool, so Henry pushes the deal through, but that would rely on Dempsey wanting to make the move. Imagine he snubbs Liverpool for Everton....... that wouldn't look too good in the press for Henry.

Save our money and use Ross Barkley, a vastly superior talent with the potential to be a similar type of goal threat.

He doesn't have the stamina or defensive qualities to be used as a full time player yet. Its safer to let him develop those out of the lime light where one error doesn't cost us points.

This.

It's either really good, older players or players who could be really good but are a risk.

And with our finances, I think it makes more sense to go with the former. We can't be blowing what little cash we have on chances and risks all the time, even if they *could* mean a huge pay off.

I think the best option would be to balance it out with lower risk young signings ( something like Moses, Rodallega) and older players who we know will perform. But that being said, there is always a risk in the transfer market that they just won't settle and perform like they used to. Guess thats just how it goes.

Kuyt and Maxi look to be on there way in the summer, So that leaves Gerrard and Adam not really impossible to keep Adam out of the side now is it seeing as hes gash

How do you know he hasnt got the stamina or defence qualitys? How often have you seen him play?

Fair enough. Who knows, they seem to have bottomless pockets over there, so a toss like Adam doesn't seem to phase them much. Just go out and buy a replacement for him.

I am basing it off of what AB has said. Even watching the highlights of Reserve matches you can see him getting beat often and giving up on the ball on the defensive side of things. Also basing it off of DM and Stubb's comments from earlier this year.
