What is the highest amount we could currently afford to pay a player?

All 20 clubs will now have to comply with rules that state that those with total player costs of more than £52m (13 of the 20, according to latest figures) can only increase the total bill by £4m from their pot of additional TV revenue.

The following season they can add an additional £8m and another £12m in 2015‑16. But additional money earned from commercial deals and match-day income can also be put towards the total – which could put pressure on ticket prices.

Under the parallel rules to limit long-term losses, clubs can lose a total of £105m over a rolling three-year period, starting next season.

It'd be interesting to see how a new manager would want to spread the wage budget next season. With Moyes, Neville, Fellaini and Heitinga gone there'd be a fair bit extra to play with (around £250k a week).

If Moyes stays I'd like to see him free up money by using academy products instead of bringing in more expensive old pros that come in on Bosmans or loans and play less than five games a season. Hope Akpan hasn't been spectacular at Reading, but he's done more than Hitzlsperger this season while earning probably less than half as much. I also don't think Naismith is any better than Baxter.

We're already maxed out with a the wage bill right now. So we cant pay much more then we pay now. To be honest no way we should be paying anyone 100k a week. We're not a cl club.

70k-80k max IMO.

But if we rock midtable for 2 seasons, we'll be in the **** and we'll need them off the bill

I'm just basing this on when we had Arteta, Cahill, Saha, Heitinga, all on 60k+ a week and we had 2 poor seasons leading to most of them and squad players being flogged.
