Went yesterdays game and i suppose those who watched it on highlights yesterday would have seen what was evident live yesterday. I know teams have their rough trots in a season or a lot have end of season lethargic displays but the recent form (leaving aside dropped points) is a bit of a worry. There seems to be a real lack of creativity and everything is one-dimensional and predictable. Ill be honest, though i was gutted we couldnt see out the lead Lescott gave us, i thought a point was the least Birmingham City deserved.

Need to up it in coming weeks but if the quality isnt stepped up from what we've seen since the Fiorentina game, fifth spot could be gone.

We are playing like a team that has no confidence and no fight maybe we are paying now for having such a small squad and exhaustion has set in lets hope the real team turn up against Chelsea on Thursday funny enough I think we will win dont know why just a feeling(y)

im left with the hope United get the title before we play Arsenal/Chelsea. other than the defence and Howard in paticular, i thought the whole team was off form.

i think alot of our performances this season have been awful but we forget about them when we get the result.

we need to change our style not our team.

A lot of truth in what you say but have we the players to change our style Moysey has spent 6 years moulding this squad and to be fair we have seen more football than hoofball. it as always comes down to cash the really great players our out of our reach Dave has done well to pick up bargains but truth is we now need proven quality players.

I'm disappointed but not that surprised with the recent downturn in results and performances. I think we all knew we were going to be a bit short when injuries and tiredness set in at the 'business' end of the season.
I think it's been clearly demonstrated this season that our first 11, when fully fit, can give anyone a match and play some nice football while they're at it.
No we're not the finished article by any means, and we still resort to the dreaded hoof far to often. It was obvious to most in the Carling cup semi that we just don't have the quality back up players.
Yesterday for example. Missing Arteta, Osman and Cahill from our first choice midfield, any team would have noticed the difference. Imagine the Arse without Fabregas, Hleb and Flamini. They'd struggle against Birmingham.
Imo, we all know what's gone wrong, but I'm optimistic we can put it right in the summer
Upwards and onwards

I have to agree with you JM, we are a work in progress and at times we've punched above our weight. On reflection some of our Euro results have flattered us, Nuremberg are second to bottom in Gremany, and the Dutch side we beat is languishing near the bottom of their league. We have played this second half of the season on a wing and a prayer, tiredness, injuries and disruption to the squad have taken their toll. The signings made by the boss as cover have not worked out as expected hence the level of cover once injuries kicked in has been non-existant. We must cling on to fifth come what may but it isn't going to be half as easy as some think:blink:

A better side would've buried us on Saturday, it seems the jaunts to Spain are not paying off.We are hanging on instead of being proactive, all i know is that if we don't perk ourselves up and get key players back by Thursday then we could get embarrassed against Chelsea, and then confidence will begin to drain from the players.

I think like me you can see only one result Vim, and thats not a good one(n) We have had to rely too much on a few players, they are goosed and only a summers rest will do them any good. One bonus is that we won't be troubled by the Euro championship so they canj put their feet up. In fairness I would let Arteta have his operation asap, he is useless as walking wounded(y)

Whats gone wrong????

Hello..we are 5th. Jesus you'd think we were back in a relegation scrap. A reality check is NEEDED here. We have had a fabulous season, a season of overachievement given the lack of quality players we have. Next season will be even harder to finish in a uefa spot what with spurs, newcastle and villa likely to be even better. The big 4 have world class players...we dont, with the exception of lescott and an on form Arteta none of our players would get into any big 4 team...even spurs and newcastle have better players than us. SO, Moyes deserves HUGE respect for what he has achieved...i think many here undervalue what he has done.

We dont play good football, but we scrap, win ugly and pick up results..Sunderland and Derby recently. Im delighted with the uefa spot..the lads deserve great credit as does the manager, as a previous poster rightly said we have punched above our weight all season, so credit to everyone.

Fair enough, i understand what your saying. However, the question is related to the past few performances since the Fiorentina match at Goodison. Its fair to say there has been a definite and alarming slide since that night

I think that he meant by "What's gone wrong?" is that our current form is nothing near where it was earlier in the season.

You can get paralysis by analysis on this one but I think it's simple really.

I can't remember the last time we played this many matches in a season between all competitions.

We're out of gas.

I think your right mate we've just run out of steam, shows you where Grav and Advm are in the managers eyes when young Gosling and Rodwell are preferred to them. All the more intresting when you hear Moyes scathing comments of those who havent contributed!

Comes down to when the back is against the wall who wants it bad enough. I can see Daveys dilema not wanting to experiment with young talent so they won't have any adverse effects in there growth. But we may need to if other aren't responding in kind. We are on a slippery slope at the moment with Pompey and Villa in good form with easier fixtures.

I think the fact that we're having to scrap out victories against Sunderland and Derby suggests that our team is pretty tired. With our form earlier in the season we would have battered both teams (7-1, anyone?).
