What effect is all the booing of substitutions in the last games going to have ?

We may of conceded 4, we may not have been fresh enough to get the 3rd.. who knows? We did however get a point.
The point is he's now getting boo'd regardless of whether the substitution is more defensive, or more attacking and irregardless of the effect it has.
Salvages a point with 2 goals, Heittinga scores the winner. He's making the boo boys look like embarrassingly lacking in footballing knowledge.

I wonder why?

Could it be keeping his options open makes it look like he really couldn't give a ****? or is that just fine and dandy?

His contract situation has nothing to do with the boos the OP is talking about, that's a figment of your anti Moyes imagination Nige.

Just my views on the matter from my blog

Why do we boo our own?

In a world of football tribalism, one contradictions that bemuses me to this day remains the booing of our own players.

Let’s think about this for a moment. We attend a match to support our team to victory, often at all costs and with a genuine distain for the opposition. Intra and Intercity rivalries play a significant part in football and at time emotions boil over and hatred rains down from the terraces. But hatred for our own players!?!

It is football’s great paradox. We attend a match as “supporters”, yet we turn against our own players and we boo them?

I understand that people become frustrated, but can someone please explain to me the logic of booing your own player? Let’s for a minute take this away from the current squad of players (who by the way are midway through our best season since 2004-5). In 1997-98 Everton were fighting relegation from the Premier League. The squad was made up of a myriad of players not fit to represent Everton, yet they were giving their all to keep the Blues in English footballs top flight. Enter Gareth Farrelly. I am sure you all know how the story ends, a wonderful long range effort that just, and I mean just, kept Everton in the Premier League. But Gareth had become the subject of the Goodison boo boys. At times, he was booed simply for touching the football and this by his own fans. You would think, those who pay their money to watch Everton would be grateful, saved from watching dour Championship football by a young player trying to make his way in the game. But instead we chose to hound him out of Goodison and into footballing oblivion.

Players, who I am not alone in thinking have written themselves into the history of this club as the best players of a generation have been subject to the jeers and moans of the crowd too. Former players of the year, Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill and now Johnny Heitinga have all endured difficult times and I cannot remember a single one of them playing at their best while the crowd have been on their back.

Put quite simply it does not help the players and it certainly does not help the team.

I know you all pay top prices to watch Everton. We deserve a right for freedom of speech. But remember why you are there. You are at Goodison to support the team. We have 13 league games and a cup run to enjoy. Let’s get behind every single one of them, and support the boys from now until May #letsgetbehindjohnnyheitinga

There's nothing wrong with a bit of booing.

The fans pay good money to watch, and they have a right to express their opinion. If anything it is an indication that the fans know that the squad is paper thin and are voicing it. After what happened in the transfer window a bit of protest is the very least that the club should be expecting.

Our squad depth really doesn't help us in this case. The likes of ManU/City always make it policy to use all three subs and they always have the players on the bench to keep the opposition right under the cosh. Look at how many late goals City have managed to snatch this season.

As professional footballers they should be able to deal with it really.
I can understand why people were booing Heitinga even though i never joined in but the boos were ringing out around the ground before that for Mirallas being taken off, which was the correct decision. If you want to boo bad decisions fair enough even though its not really a thing that ive ever seen a lot in all my years supporting Everton, but to boo Moyes for making correct decisions is a bit embarrasing really for all involved.Peolple are also saying that it was a protest against the board in some way.No it wasn't it was booing a player cos he was rubbish and it was booing the manager for taking off Mirallas.

The only mistake for me was making Heitinga mark Benteke when clearly Distin should have.Failing that Heitinga should have been taken off earlier than he was.

I think Benteke had a lot to do to that decision, he deliberatly targeted Johnny over Distin.

You mean the Villa Manager seen JH play on wednesday night v WBA , & must have rubbed his hands with glee seeing JH as the central defender & Jags at fullback - not rocket science he was awful v WBA -at fault with a great assist for Shane Long - should have been dropped from the team & the bench imo over that cock up on Wednesday!

Yes, that is why they bood, Mirallas coming off and a striker repalcing him, and Heittinga going off and and midfielder replacing him is coincidence.. Its a spontaneous dislike of him keeping his options open.. Well worked out, frankly it had been confusing me as the subs once again worked but I think you cracked it.

Can I ask, When he took Heitinga off did people boo because:

a) They were booing Heitinga because he had a real stinker of a game
b) They didnt agree with the sub being made?

This is a genuine question, I was quite shocked and whilst I personally have always thought Heitinga is a liability I was surprised people turned on him if that was the reason people booed the sub

It was a double substitution, in which the first sub, the Mirrilas one I believe was booing against the decision, but the Heitinga one unfortunately I think was because he had a stinker, it kind of blended into one big boo

Not sure about that, I agree with Mirralas sub and the boos because they wanted him to stay on, but the booing of Heitinga was a bit excessive.

Exactly.

But there's many on here that will think its simple man marking based on a sheet of players jotted down in certain places.
The reality is benteke will of purposly aimed to be against Heitinga not Distin.

The boos started when the announcer said Mirallas was coming off and were entirely about that from where I sat.

I think once people realised that jelavic and oviedo were both coming on they were happier about it, mind.
