We actually do follow such a practice at our house. We keep the seat and the lid down. Years ago I read the article below about how fecal particles can attach to toothbrushes, the thought of having any fecal fragments as toothpaste was enough to persuaded me to enforce such practice at home.I don't follow the practice....just reporting what research says. It came to mind as there was recently more interest in the subject related to public WCs and that a person with COVID does shed virus in feces.

You're probably brushing your teeth with fecal matter
Should you clean your toothbrush? How often should you change it?
