What Did You Last Eat Thread

Is your sweet potato mash like a dessert Sassy? I went to see a friend in Washington for Thanks Giving once, it was like an all you could eat dessert bar. Even the normal mash had about a bag of sugar in it
Sweet potatoes always taste like dessert to me but I never add any sugar, although my husband’s mom makes hers with lots of brown sugar and pecans on top that’s the southern way lol Hers is super delicious but I rather to leave all those calories out. So instead I bake my sweet potatoes until tender and once done then I mash them and put a little bit of cinnamon and coconut butter. Baking the sweet potatoes instead of boiling enhances their own natural sugar so there is no need for more, at least for me.

Are sweet potatoes common in your area?

They sound delicious Sassy, yes we have sweet potatoes in Liverpool. To be honest I’d always go for a normal spud over a sweet potato. I have to admit though I am a real sucker for sweet potato pie!

They are super tasty. I don't blame you, I absolutely love a normal spuds too but sweet potatoes are also a favorite at our household and so it is sweet potato pie. Or Tbf any sort of pie, I have a weakness for pies lol

That doesn’t make you a bad person :). I’m a bit weird with pies, cakes etc. I don’t like cream or ice cream, I feel fruit has no place being involved in them and typically I’m not a big fan of pastry. Pecan or sweet potato pie though I will ravish. Sticky toffee pudding is the true king of puddings!!!

When in Belgium… I am fir a few more weeks
Moules and frites …. These had a portion of smoked salmon in there too
Sat with my best mate watching all the Belgians gathering for tonight’s game … we rattled these off with a good couple of glasses of Belgium beers
Sometimes simple is all you need
Come on Belgium …

I absoulutely adore mussels.
Get them in a lemon and butter sauce and I'm tipping the bowl over with drool.

I've mentioned before on here about my ma's kitchen prowess (she was the head chef in Goodison's players' lounge for years in the 70's) and she always warned me off eating closed mussels. Not true; apparently this myth stems from a book in the 70's from Jane Grigson (Sp?) and just became culinary "fact".

Uncooked or dead mussels are immediately obvious in their texture and have a very obvious smell.

Long story short, mussles are boss.
