Last night's show with My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses was, without a doubt, one of the best shows I've ever been to. Band Of Horses were their usual fantastic selves. They don't really put on a big stage show, they just come out and play ace song after ace song. I went into this more interested in BOH than MMJ, however I have to tell you, I was completely blown away by the Jackets. From the performance, to the stagecraft, to the execution, it was on another level. From the get go...this was the first time I've smelled pot at a concert since the mid 80's...the pot smoking beardos were out in force. Jim James (singer-songwriter, guitarist) came out in a cape and playing a "flying V" guitar, and from the off they were kicking ass and taking names. At various intervals I thought all hell was going to break loose. The crowd brought their games faces, and were clearly up for it. This was one of the few shows in a theatre setting (see pic below) where even the upper levels (where I was), half the people were on their feet losing their minds the entire time.
Here's some footage taken from last nights show (The song is "One Big Holiday"). I was just to the left of this. Trust me. If My Morning Jacket are playing near you anytime soon...GET THERE.
