I think Mirallas is still less than fully fit hence McGeady bring selected ahead of him.

And I don't think one can fault Bobby for keeping Barry on the pitch.....he was immense as we kicked on after the substitutions.

He is a much better passer of the ball than Besic.
Barry's passing has been terrible, lately, and he's been nowhere near last season's form. Besic is the future and his form overall is far better than Barry's. IMO.

As for Mirallas' fitness, why not start with him and sub' him if he starts to struggle. On tonight's form he could've put West Ham out of the game
by then.

I'm sort of annoyed they didn't show a replay of Robles' penalty. It could have well hit the bar and then crossed the line, it did rebound straight down. Surprised no one has questioned this.

The showed one later on, it bounced down a few yards in front of the line. I did think that the GK's (both ones) were jumping forward a few yards before the pens were struck, I thought that was illegal.

That approach usually makes things worse in the long (see McCarthy) - he is clearly not ready to do ninety minutes for some reason. Martinez is probably wanting Kev fit for West Brom and Palace which are more important games than last night IMO

Absolutely class performance with 10 men.

Can't help losing on penalties.

Hopefully we can kick on now.

Things learnt:
1. Joel is actually a good keeper
2. McGeady shouldnt be starting
3. Oviedo is better on the wing than Barkley.
4. Our team spirit is back

Team for Monday:

Joel
Coleman Jagielka Stones Baines
McCarthy Besic
Mirallas Naismith Oviedo
Lukaku

....I said when the Hammers got the 1st goal that it might help us focus on creating/scoring and it did. It's happened the last 3 games when we've done ok but had to go a goal down before we had a greater focus on scoring. It's a mental thing, the same mentality we had last season when we were a permanent threat.

Hopefully we will return to having that focus.

Had it the worst last night. I'm in the middle of the Cotswolds with [Poor language removed] all signal on a training course. Saw it was 1 0 and we were down to 10 men. Didn't check until extra time and we were 2 1. I was buzzing. Sitting in the pub and I'm managing to refresh bbc sport every 5 minutes to check what's happened. I think it was 5 all on pens and I et a whatsapp message saying 'bet you're happy now!' So I start celebrating in front of everyone. Then I refresh and it says the belter had missed his pen and they'd won. Turns out she'd sent it like 20 mins earlier when we'd gone 2 1 up but I didn et it till it was 5 5 on pens.

Ffs.

Don't like losing ever but may be a godsend as less games to concentrate on premiership status - how sad is that!

Unfortunately when we do not get the desired result against WBA RM has an instant excuse with the players being tired after a 'mammoth effort' in the FA cup.

Cup is definitely half empty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
