Yesterday O'Brien didn't allow Gakpo to take him on the outside, which is always a problem for all teams when players get to the byline, he pushed him inside. It was the same when the speedy 'wonderkid' came on, push him inside. Job done for O'Brien. Then it becomes an issue for those midfielders which surely Moyes would have made them aware of, when Gakpo and Ngumoha cut in, and would surely have been part of the pre match discussion/information. In fact Gakpo got too many shot at our goal. But that's not necessarily down to O'Brien because he wasn't closed down. I think we would have had a right go at O'Brien if he did allow their wide players to get behind him and cross - I think of the two goals conceded against City that came from the right hand side springs to mind.I don't mind Garner playing in centre mid provided Keane isn't centre back and O'Brien isn't right back.
Whatever happens O'Brien needs to play centre back.
I agree Ndaiye didn't help him out enough down the right in the first game but even so, O'Brien was rash at right back and he looked very uncomfortable throughout. It's a nightmare match up for him.
Disrupting the other positions will only add to the problem not solve it. O'Brien is a better defender than Patterson, an alternative, if Patterson gets played CB then Summerville/Diouf will have field day against him. For me, leave as it is and hope Keane has a decent game.
